On December 1st, NJT will be taking over the route operated by the long-established "Broadway Bus" in Bayonne.
The new route number will be #12.
I was surprised to learn that this old "indy" was still in operation; this takeover marks the sixth time since 2021 that NJT has taken over the operations of a private carrier.
In my much, much younger days, I remember this old "IBOA" outfit rostering some really nice-looking Old Looks (and Fishbowls!)
Another link to Hudson County's once-rich and diverse bus history is now about to vanish down the echoing corridors of time......

I don't understand what NJT is trying to accomplish...haven't they also contracted out many of their routes to other operator's, in their history?
Sometimes more than once, even (as in the contractor fails in some way).
Is their mission to take over all NJ routes, or to privatize as much as possible?

traildriver:
Your opinion indeed echoes my own, 100%.
Many years ago, the old "B-1" was a TNJ route (it was a decsendent of PS's "HUDSON RIVER" line trolley line, which was converted in 1938)
This was/is line is a "contract" operation; I believe the #751 had been affiliated with COACH USA-----this line operates QUITE infrequently.
I was QUITE familiar with the route, quite a few years back.
Just WHAT NJT is wishing to accomplish here is totally beyond me.
I STILL recall, over 20 years ago, when NJT took over the "22 HILLSIDE" from ACADEMY (we used this line for many, many years), and wasted no time in cutting it back to Nungessers, leaving my area devoid of #22 service (and NO "filling the void" with additional #159 service)
Up here, the omnipresent "Tijuana Taxi" dollar vans far, far outnumber the NJT buses.....a situation I DO NOT like at all.
Laat time I rode an NJT bus (or ANY bus, for that matter) was back in early 2016, when Mom was in a rehab center in Teaneck, not long before she passed.
As I recall, the bus showed up over 1/2 hour late; this was a FAR CRY from the level of service I knew, 35-40 years ago..............

......if only we could could turn back the hands of time and go back to the glory days of REAL "New Joisey" buses, circa-1960!
GMC
WHITE
MACK
ACF-BRILL
TWIN COACH
FITZJOHN
Once again, how very fortunate U am to have been born when I was, and experience all of those classic buses FIRSTHAND!!
