Here's an interesting photo from 1974, showing MaBSTOA Fishbowl #8486 in Brooklyn, signed for the "TB" (note front sign).........

Doesn't that (and other like photos) belong in MaBSTOA- or "bit player"-related threads? I know we like to honor our fallen officers, but . . . just how is this related to what kind of buses were used for NYPD or FDNY? Confused

On a side note, odd there were no photos taken after 'TB' was split up into M34, M35 and Bx21. By then the buses would have been of the lot that ran on such routes as M3, M4 and M5. (Between later 1974 and 1976, any photos taken at Wards Island would have shown 'M34'.)

W.B.:

MY error entirely, my friend; for some oddball reason, I was confusing WARDS ISLAND with RIKERS* (I've told you before that, when you are insomniac, you'll do some STRANGE things!!) Shocked Shocked

Getting back to the "TB", I've only seen five or six in the nycsubway.org archives; seems as though this was a route largely ignored by the bus photographers of that day, for whatever reason.....

"NYO"

*Recall, two ex-SI ferries, The "KOLF" and the "MERRELL" served as floating dormitories at Rikers for many years, before being scrapped.

Just a correction, this was in Astoria, Queens, 29 Street at Hoyt Ave North, just at the Queens side of the TB Bridge.

I know where one of them was...Highway Patrol Precinct Number 3 was on the side of the Grand Central Parkway, at Cunningham Park.

This police "Dangerfield" Flex was seen "off duty" at the Castleton Garage, back in 1987.........

From what I gathered, that was the experimental air-conditioned "3100" that Fifth Avenue Coach Lines ordered and had placed in service not long after they adopted that moniker.

W.B.:

Thanks for the info.

Was this bus eventually added to the historic fleet, or was it scrapped?

Interesting in that it is shown with an NYPD shield. "SPring 3100" was the official magazine of the NYPD...the number was the old 6 digit phone number of NYPD headquarters....
