What is mind-boggling, is the vast amount of highly specialized areas of interest in all things that can be found on the 'web' today... Cool

traildriver:

Indeed!

I'm sure a lot of fellows think that they are the "lone wolf", regarding their "off-the-wall" hobby, and, then, BANG! do a quick 'net search, and he finds he is NOT alone! Shocked

I collect vintage traffic lights, myself...of course, mine are only toys....... Wink Wink

Here's another bygone "traffic signal" that should not be overlooked; the warning light that once marked streetcar safety islands......

Church & Remsen, 1956; as can be noted by this photo and those previous, "two-light" aspect traffic lights were far from rare in Brooklyn, back in those days.....

Fellows:

I had to include this rare 1940's shot from Los Angeles; here we see a Pacific Electric Old Look YELLOW loading passengers, with a classic "semaphore" traffic light keeping guard.

These charming and interesting old traffic lights have been seen in countless old movies and theatrical cartoons, from the late 1920's through the 1950's.......

Here's an excellent page detailing NYC's long-forgotten "traffic towers"* of the 1920's......

www.nypdhistory.com/nycs-fifth-avenues-traffic-squad-signal-tower-system-state-of-the-art-for-the-1920s/

*Be sure to read of how the colors of the lights used on the towers had different meanings than the modern signals do today.

Newark, New Jersey, also once boasted an elaborate traffic tower (Broad & Market).

Though this historic tower was not destroyed when it was removed from service, it was relocated to an area cemetery, where it remains to this day, keeping watch over the headstones, instead of a steady parade PSNJ streetcars, buses, and motor traffic.....
