In this circa-1934 photo, we see two TARS streetcars on the "P" line, passing by the NYW&B station house on the left........

And those streetcars were still there in the early years of NYCTS' stewardship of the Dyre Avenue shuttle . . . the area had long been bustituted when the Dyre Avenue line was connected with the rest of the IRT subway.

W.B.:

The Dyre Avenue shuttle (which used elevated gate cars and steel Hi-V's) was finally connected with the IRT "mainline" in 1957, allowing for through service between Dyre Avenue and Brooklyn (imagine if this connection had opened when the Dyre Avenue line began operation in 1941!)

Back in the shuttle days, the change booth clerks only worked one shift; after the booths closed, fares were collected on the trains, with a conductor using a fare box.....
