On this day, 54 years ago, a certain Cleon Jones caught Davey Johnson's flyball in left field, wrapping up the World Series at Shea.

A LOT of VERY happy Mets fans were jamming the "Eye-Are-Tee's" WF "Bluebirds" on the #7, that fine day!

1,000,000 light-years removed from the dismal 2023 season, for certain.........

CTA "Baseball Specials" were quite popular on the "L" for decades; these well-patronized specials carried thousands of fans to watch (and root for) the Cubs at Wrigley Field------signs affixed to the train doors on lead cars of trains carrying fans read "BASE-BALL TODAY" (interestingly-Wrigley Field was not furnished with floodlights-so night playing was not a reality until 1988! CTA buses also carried big crowds to the historic ballpark)--------------------------"NYO"

WB: Correct! "Shik-aga" was indeed a BIG "baseball town"-for certain-CSLCTA streetcars would be displaying dash cards reading "BASEBALL TO-DAY!" when the "action" was being played within CSL/CTA territory;"L" trains/streetcars/buses would be packed solid with baseball fans heading to the ball parks (just like right here in ol' "Noo Yawk")-----One quite interesting photo in the book I had just talked about dates to 1959; on one of the "L" stations on State Street a big sign shouts: "WORLD SERIES-GO-GO-SOX!-GO TO 'SOX PARK' BY STATE STREET SUBWAY!"------and-passing beneath the "L" station-we see the lone CTA postwar "Oddball" (#8499) which had been fitted with a "Dangerfield" front end---------- Wink

"See-Tee-Yay" baseball specials: After the North Water "L" station closed in 1949 it was used to store work trains and OOS cars; railfan excursions often began their runs here- also consists for the baseball specials would also often be stored here---interestingly North Shore interurbans also deadheaded to this station-------- "NYO"

Also in this book there is a photo dating back to 1966-depicting a train of 2000-series cars (then just two years old) turning onto the Lake Street "L"; down below we see a "Dangerfield" and what is interesting is that this particular bus was one of the "Dangerfields" that had the split window panels--------- "NYO"

WB: I always wished that those split windows were "standard" on the "Dangerfields" (to Your's Truly I always thought the buses looked "older" with such windows; I liked that)------- Wink

In the past-we talked of the "tougher" appearance of a "Dangerfield" alongside a Fishbowl; indeed the "Dangerfield" was a "beefier"-looking bus for certain---------echoes-perhaps-of the cocky and swaggering "Pattons"----------- "NYO"

Thinking of the "square window" Old Looks which once carried Yankee fans to the original "House that Ruth Built": which "square window" buses were retired first-those which were originally SURFACE buses-or-those originally operated by FACC/FACL? Going by what I read here in the past-I'll say that it was the ex-SURFACE square-window Old Looks* that were put out to pasture first-as-by the early "stoa" era-these old workhorses were indeed showing their age-looking quite "down at the heels"---------"NYO" *(4507s?)

If Your's Truly is correct-when the "stoa" era began-the oldest of the SURFACE Old Looks were 4507s-which dated to 1946; the oldest FACL Old Looks were also 4507s-------------"NYO"

In Ogden's book on FACCo (page 94) there is a photo of Old Look #2404; this bus sports the post-1948 paired windows-but is indentified as a 4507; the other 4507s in this book are all square-window buses; was this caption in error-or were the last of the 4507s equipped the newer paired windows? Regarding SURFACE: were their first paired-window Old Looks the TDH-5104s ? (1953) "NYO"
