This rare old rollsign is from Scranton*, but certainly appropriate here....

*Note here that this sign also is described as being from the "Queens area"...... Question

A fine portait of a CSL/CTA "Green Hornet" PCC in front of the famed Wrigley Field, on a long-ago day.......

Back in 1947, we see a B&QT 8000 series Peter Witt working the "LORIMER" line, with the iconic Ebbets Field in the background (Dodgers fans, back in the day, where, indeed, FIERCELY loyal to "Dem Bums", just as today's Mets fans remain steadfastly loyal to the "Loveable Losers".

When the Dodgers moved west to Los Angeles in 1957 (thanks a lot, Mr, O' Malley) Razz, Brooklyn streetcars were no more (the last ran in 1956), and the trolley buses would follow them into oblivion by 1960.

Sans Ebbets Field, the Dodgers, Steeplechase Park, the BMT "Standards" and the Myrtle Avenue El, Brooklyn just ain't Brookly no more...... Sad

Same location as seen in the previous photo, this time featuring CLARK-built PCC #1000 (as you can see, this car was indeed not one of the St. Louis-built cars).......

In this 1957 view, several "Tee-Yay" Old Looks are on hand beneath the old 9th Avenue El stub at the old Polo Grounds.....

Of course, at that point the Dodgers were on a hot streak, beginning more or less in 1941 and culminating in their only World Championship whilst still in Brooklyn, in 1955 - significantly, the last full year the streetcars ran in that borough. But in this period, the fans' fierce loyalty was being rewarded in spades.

And in this year, we see the Mets on top of the National League East (and they even beat the Yankees in the first two "Subway Series" games played in this year). But, as they say . . .

W.B.:

"Dem Bums" were indeed a "home town" team in a big city; I know I've read that schoolteachers (and even Catholic school nuns!) would ask their classes to pray for the Dodgers, especially before they won the World Series over the Yankees (things were not at all politically correct, back then!)

Today, "The Amazin' Mets'" have just swept Miami, and are now enjoying a six-game winning streak! Wink

Back in the day, when the Dodgers were playing a home game and were victorious, one can only imagine the happy mood shared by their jovial fans, going back home via the subways, streetcars, and buses.

Recall Phil Foster's popular novelty tune, "Let's Keep The Dodgers in Brooklyn", when Brooklynites were praying that "Mr. O' Malley" would simply leave well enough alone. Sad

(Your's Truly, many years ago, used to perform this tune every year at my best pal's Jimmy's annual Christmas bash out on "The Island"), and, might I add, always to QUITE a rousing ovation from my co-worker cohorts!) Wink

Ahhh, memories......... Very Happy

W.B.:

Regarding the 1957 Polo Grounds photo whose link I posted earlier.......

What bus route(s) served that area then?

At what garage were the buses based?

Thanks...

Evidently, the #10 - which terminated at 159th Street, a few blocks from the Polo Grounds . . . that route was assigned out of 146th Street depot.

I saw a color photo, taken around that same time period, of Old Looks galore, including a pre-war one; they all said 'FIFTH AVENUE COACH LINES INC.' on the sides. One of them even had the front roll sign reading '9 7TH AVE. 8TH ST.' which was discontinued some years before.
