The Q83 route from Hillside Avenue to Murdock Avenue came to mind today. I presume this is a new number for a route dating from the 1930's. I cannot recall who ran this route and other nearby routes before the Board of Transportation took it over.
---
I doubt it was Jamaica Buses.
I doubt it was Green Lines.
I tend to think it was North Shore, but that doesn't seem logical.
---
Mr. Linsky, we need your help!

---
This topic came up because today is the feast of the Spanish saint Pascal Baylon, a parish off Murdock Avenue. Not Babylon, as I used to say!

Today's Q83 was started by Bee Lines in 1923 as the Q3A. It was taken over by North Shore Lines in 1939 (which despite its name ran almost all bus routes in eastern Queens) and then by the city in 1947. The route was renamed Q83 in December 1988 along with the major renumbering and rerouting of buses in conjunction with the opening of the Archer Avenue subway.

Thanks to X-Astorian for your explanation of the overwhelming presence of North Shore picking up passengers at Independent stations on Hillside Avenue during part of the era (1937-1950) when the final station was 169th Street.

The sole North Shore bus I rode was over the Whitestone Bridge.
