LaGuardia Airport has had bus service since its opening.

Besides Carey Transportation the Board of Transportation (NYCTA) had the B-72 provide service till 1949.

Triboro Coach had routes Q33 and the Q72 (acquired from the NYCTA in 1961)

But did you know that Fifth Avenue Coach had route 16 Elmhurst Crosstown go to the New York Municipal Airport using brand new Yellow Coach model 740?

The photo shows number 1400 and clearly signed for 16 Elmhurst Crosstown-82nd Street-Baxter-Broadway (the curb side black curtain) bu no sign on the street side (red curtain).

In the second photo we see another Fifth Avenue Coach bus necx to what appears to be a Triboro Coach (route Q33) Indiana/White.

Great photo, thanks for posting!

The only remnant of that beautiful 'art deco' terminal, were the American Airlines offices and hangar's at the west end of the Central Terminal, which was rebuilt around 1960.
Their architecture is similar to the other survivor, the Marine Air Terminal...

With the current major reconstruction, I don't know if those AA hangar's will remain...

The FACCo #16's time going to the future La Guardia Airport ended in 1943 when the entire line was suspended for the duration of World War II. When it resumed on Nov. 1, 1945, its route was consigned to what it had been prior to its extension to LGA.

What was that B-72 or Q-72 route?
I rode the Junction Blvd streetcar to its turnback above the Grand Central Parkway.

The original name was the B72 despite never running in Brooklyn. It was later changed to Q72.

B72 as a NTCTS/TA route and then Q72 when taken over by Triboro Coach in 1961. The southern terminal was also extended from Corona Avenue to Queens Blvd at that time.
