http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presidential_train (other POTUS conveyances are also included; this includes "yachts", the use of which ended under President Carter. This practice began in 1880, and ended in 1977. Information on the vessels can be found on the "Presidential Railcars" page)

Another historic presidential rail car, the "GEORGIA 300"; this was (AFAIK) supposed to be the car used by president-elect Joe Biden to reach DC for his inuaguration, this Wednesday.......

Regarding AMTRAK/etc. on Inuguation Day:
Only Regional and ACELA trains will operate, terminating at Union Station; no MARC or VRE service.
No AMTRAK service to Virginia or points south.
AMTRAK police and TSA agents will be aboard all Regional trains.
No buses or taxis to/from Union Station; GREYHOUND will be operating to New Carrolton.....

Just remembered this......
Over the weekend, during news coverage of the tight security in DC, prior to today's inuaguration, while a reporter was on a DC street giving his report, three highway-type coaches went by in back of him; these were two companies I was totally unfamiliar with:
YANKEE
PERKIOMAN
I have no idea if thee buses were either bringing troops into the city, or, perhaps, news people.......

Thanks for the links; as I said, I was not at all familiar with these companies, and had no idea they existed (of course, when you are a transit buff, you KNOW you are going to be picking out vehicle/equipment, etc., when you are watching the news, or anything else, for that matter!)
As with all public conveyances these days, one can only imagine how devastating a blow the COVID dealt to charter and other private companies (let's hope things begin to start to ease up sometime in the not-to-distant future)
Going over to PREVOST, for many years, these buses have become so commonplace in the States; at one time, they were quite exotic ("SOMERSET" was the first operator in the US to take delivery of the "CHAMPION", back in the late 1960's)
Charter operators, like cruise ship companies, have to be reeling with the fallout from the COVID; I do not even want to think of the losses, with little or no money coming in, and fleets idle.......

With President Biden being as "pro-AMTRAK" as he has been for many years, it will be mot interesting, to say the least, to see what the future eventually holds for AMTRAK, in a post-COVID world.
Projects I would like to see:
1): The re-starting of the aborted "Gateway" tunnel project, to build a new set of tubes under the Hudson (I would like to see the 1910 PRR tunnels rehabbed/rebuilt/retained, and, together with the new tunnels, would make for four tubes under the Hudson, instead of the present two.
2): Restructuring non-NEC services (by this, I mean, trying to alleviate the present issue of the freight lines relegating AMTRAK consists to nothing more than the proverbial red-headed stepchild)
3): Re-instating some trains to Grand Central.

Ahhhh, yes.......it's all about the "long green", my friend.......
If one thought that the price tag for the "Gateway" tunnel project was quite sizeable, a decade or so ago, they would, indeed, be victim of "sticker shock", when they learn what the CURRENT price tag of this monumental project would be today......IF the tunnel project is ever revived...........

BTW:
It is important to remember too, that, from 1910 until the early 1930's, third rail "juiced up" the PRR trains instead of catenary, and only as far west as Manhattan Transfer.
In 1932, the new spiderweb of AC catenary was also extended to the Exchange Place (Jersey City) ferry terminal; the first electric train to depart the station was a train of humble MP-54's, heading to New Brunswick....... |

.....if the "Gateway" tunnel project ever becomes a reality, it will be interesting to see how the new tunnels connect to the existing ROW, just outside the Bergen Portals.
I can envision two scenarios, here:
1: Have the tracks which are leading to/from the new tunnels connect to the existing NEC tracks, just went of the portals (this would, of course, require a new junction)
2: Build a new, separate ROW to be used by trains utilizing the new tubes; here, I can see a "connection" at some point in the Meadows (between the present and new line), to allow greater operational flexibility. In case that one or more tubes have to be taken OOS, for whatever reason, alternate routing is possible, eliminating the threat of all AMTRAK/NJT service to/from New York screeching to a halt.
Here again, however, it's all about the $$$$$$$$$........
