MaBSTOA Flxible #4719 in the shops at 132nd Street awaiting rebuilding after a catastrophic accident stripped down to the bare bones and then... assigned to the Coliseum Depot after repainting to the new two-tone blue scheme

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These are RARE photos; thanks for posting here!

Sure hope no one was killed in that accident.

On a somewhat related note, there is an interesting photo in "WELCOME ABOARD THE GM NEW LOOK BUS" (MMcKane/Squier) that shows, according to the caption:

".....after a nasty collision, MUNI #3057 (a 1969 T8H-5305) was mated with New York MTA #3816, a 1963 TDH-5303.....

In the photo, one section of the body is still wearing the two-tone MTA blue; I'm curious as to why an MTA bus was used for body grafting, instead of a bus from MUNI's own fleet......

It would also be interesting to know what was the number of the MTA Fishbowl that went west to MUNI as a "body donor" of sorts,.......

Here is a non standard sign for the M-104... they usually read 104 to 42 ST - UNITED NATIONS.

Another non standard sign was 104 to TIMES SQUARE

....cannot get enough of these BEAUTIFULLY NOSTALGIC old bus photos; how long ago it all is, now!

You KNOW you are getting old when you can recall when Fishbowls were the NEWEST buses on the streets....(!!) Rolling Eyes

Not only does that Fishbowl date this great old photo, but, also, the pay phone booths......where have the years gone? Rolling Eyes

Here is another sign that we hardly discuss.

This reading usually appeared somewhere in the middle of the curtain.

I prefer the "NO PASSENGERS" to the ones used by some of the private companies that read NOT IN SERVICE or OUT OF SERVICE or simply GARAGE

Note the Ave B. new look in the background

Another GREAT old photo; thanks for sharing! Wink

Decades ago, I can recall the old NHBL buses displaying "GARAGE" while deadheading; these, I recall, were white-on-red.

However, a few also displayed: "NO PASSENGERS".

I still clearly recall seeing these on the late-night runs, looking out of our old front windows, overlooking Hudson Boulevard, when we lived in Union City......

In those days, 'Tee-Yay' and MaBSTOA roll signs only carried 'SPECIAL' and 'NO PASSENGERS' designations, no 'NOT IN SERVICE', 'OUT OF SERVICE' or 'GARAGE'.

If only that were a common sight, 'Dangerfields' showing '1' or '15' along this stretch; or '3' at the 42d Street Pier (especially next to the contemporaneous MaBSTOA Fishbowls, especially those with the batwings but before A/C became a fixture) or, on the other end of its route, 47th Street near the UN; or '15' at South Ferry . . . for however brief a period . . .

W.B.:

What "prestigious" route were "Dangerfields" first assigned to (if any?)

Were any ever used in Staten Island Express service, via the VZ Bridge?

Just asked about "Dangerfields" being used in Staten Island Express service (X17); did a quick search and found this 1981 photo......
