W.B.:

Dare I ask, WHAT (pray tell) "bus" is a "Rolling Wurlitzer"???? Shocked Shocked Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

As I had mentioned awhile back in several topics, the "Tee-Yay's" beefy, swaggering "Pattons" disappeared about the last vanished from the Hudson County area where we were still living (1967/1968)

Our square-window "Shermans" disappeared about 1966, or shortly thereafter, along with the WHITE 798s and 1150s.

DE CAMP's (and INTER-CITY's) "Rocky Brill-boa" C-44 suburbans vanished aboiut 1966.

The only "Jetson" Fishbowls I knew in my general area where those transits operated by PSNJ; by the time that the first Fishbowls" began to appear in service on the old "indy" lines, it was now "bullets".

Amazing how the now-iconic "AVENUE B" (aka "The Little Red Bus That Could") was still running Pattons, years after the very last of the "Tee-Yay" breed had been put out to pasture...........

Why, those usually called "Artics." (Wurlitzer was one of many makers of accordions of the type Lawrence Welk played.)

Ahhh, I see....except that these "Wurlitzers" are not accompanied by a performance by the Lennon Sisters(!!) Rolling Eyes

Actually, the "Slinkies" always remind me of the old "caterpillar" rides once found at most amusement parks, back in the day (only thing was, they were FUN to ride and a lot CHEAPER to board!) Wink

As I always have associated MCIs with GREYHOUND, I call "En-Jay-Tee's" fleet "Jersey Hounds".

I was NEVER a fan of "En-Jay-Tees" slithering serpents, but the WORST were the originals, the VOLVOs of the late 1980s; I HATED them intensely (and hated them even more when I had to RIDE in one! Razz

Incidentally, these were the FIRST bus that Your's Truly HATED from Day One.

Man, even an 870 (aka "New-and-improved 'Bomber' ") would be a welcome sight these days; last NJT buses I liked where the NOVA "Torpedoes" of the later 1990s, and even they are now part of history.......

Distinct era came to a sad end with the following:

The end of both FACL and SURFACE as independents.

The last "Tee-Yay" and "stoa" buses carrying the stylish script over the windows.

The last "OA" emblems displayed on "stoa" Fishbowls.

The retirement of the last square-window "Shermans".

The retirement of the last "Pattons"

The retirement of the last "Shermans" running for "stoa".

The retirement of the last of the "Tee-Yays" venerable "Shermans".

The disappearance of "AVENUE B" (aka "The Little Red Bus That Could")

The retirements of the last Fishbowls and "Dangerfields".

And, finally, the retirement of the last "Torpedoes" (RTS).

Today, well, it just ain't the same........... Sad

That reminds me . . . I saw one ex-"Em-Tee-Yay" "Bomber" that was rebuilt, rebadged as "Flxible" and renamed a "Metro," and put in years of service in "Joisey." Only it wasn't "En-Jay-Tee." The pic was on the " 'stoa" depot Facebook page.

Even though this circa-early 1970s photo is from Philadelphia, as soon as I came across this nostalgic "rear view" photo, you came to mind........ Wink

Yep . . . change the paint job, and it could well resemble the 1971 set of T6H-5305A's the "Tee-Yay" ordered and received.

Just curious.......

When the now-iconic "Are-Tee-Ess" (aka "Torpedoes") were making their final runs in "Noo Yawk" several years ago, were there more running on ex-"Tee-Yay" routes, or were there more operating on ex-"stoa" lines?

Which line boasted the very last "official" RTS run?

Appreciate info........
