Journal Square, 1964; countless times over the years, until we moved in 1971, Mom and I boarded a #1 NHBL bus at this same spot, to head back home to Union City; though the buildings in the background still survive today, the foreground area is today totally unrecognizeable

You can see here just how diverse the NHBL fleet was, back in those days; note the "5" placard displayed by the WHITE, about to depart for New York; the Art Deco bus shelters have long since vanished, like these vintage buses.

The H&M (PATH) runs directly beneath the Boulevard at this point; the PRR's electrified passenger/freight line to the Hudson River waterfront also ran under this span. In later years, Conrail freights passed through, adjacent to the PATH platforms.

The 1912-era H&M station served until the early 1970's; today's insipid PATH Transportation Center has about as much charm and appeal as a coat hanger.

Back to Brooklyn......

This two photos illustrate the failed experiment to bring streetcars back to Brooklyn; these handsome "picture window" PCC's (postwar cars) came from Boston.......

In this postwar view of the the Williamsburgh Bridge Plaza transfer station, we see double-ended Peter Witt #8367, signed "REID".

Note the Old Look in the background; soon, diesel buses will conquer the remaining streetcar lines.....

A classic interior view of B&QT PCC #1002, looking forward; note the turnstile at the front doors......

Here, a single-ended Peter Witt (6000-series) was snapped loading/unloading passengers alongside the LIRR's ornate terminal; note, also, the St. Louis-built trolley bus on the right......

Looks like a smaller version of the same serif font that was on the exteriors; wonder if that was what was used on exteriors of buses from the Grummans until the point where 'M' was replaced by the angled MTA logo in 1993.

Here is an interior view of restored B&QT PCC #1001, looking forward; note there is no number on the bulkhead........

If you're talking about above the front window on what, on a bus, would be the driver's side, the number's there, but the background is dark so you have to really look in order to see it.

W.B.:

Ahhh, so there IS a number there, over the "motorman's" side; now THAT is a DARK background!!! Shocked

Speaking of "numbers":

B&QT PCC #1010 was unusual in that it was the only PCC in the fleet to have a bus-style ventilator above the windshields; the number "1010" is also the call numbers for longtime NYC news radio station WINS.

In the left background, note the Old Look making a turn (photo info courtesy of our late friend, Mr. Linsky)........

Here's a busy bygone Brooklyn scene from 1933, showing a hefty traffic jam, caused by the removal of the old "3 Cent Line" streetcar tracks (those honking and squawking Klaxon horns must have maade for some racket!)

According to the photo, the bus on the right is a 300 series TWIN.....

It's now 1954 (aalong the BMT Culver line)

Note the FORD bus heading away from the camera; also, the streetcar loading platform with its warning light......

https://www.nycsubway.org/perl/show?135541

(courtesy: nycsubway.org)

Now, in this picture, we see a PCC alongside another FORD bus (clearly not a "Tee-Yay" vehicle!) Wink

Obviously, this bus was operated by a "local" outfit......
