As mentioned previously, Park Row* was the only place in Manhattan where you would find PCC's.
With the overhead wire ban in Manhattan, Park Row, Delancey St. (underground), and the Queensboro Bridge Ry. terminal (also underground) were the only locations in Manhattan where streetcars utilized overhead wires.

Easily distinguished from the other PCC's in the B&QT fleet was car #1000, built by CLARK (CLARK also built the streamlined articulated BMT "Bluebird" rapid transit trains)
This car had a more angular look than the rest of the PCC fleet, and also, was the only car to feature standee windows.
This post-1944 view shows #1000 leaving the former elevated train trackage on the Brooklyn Bridge, on the #67 line, approaching the location of the now-demolished, multi-level Sands Street complex.
Streetcars made their last runs over the span in 1950.......

That ex-TARS car barn (Kingsbridge, specifically) housed the M4 Fifth Avenue-Fort Washington route from the point MaBSTOA took over the FACL and ST routes in 1962, until late September 1963 when it was brought back to the ex-FACCo depot/garage on 132nd Street. Kingsbridge seemed to be closer to The Cloisters than was 132nd, no? |

W.B.:
As always, greatly appreciate further historical "tidbits", regarding vintage bus photos!
Two quick questions:
When was this facility finally closed down?
When were the last Old Looks/MACKS replaced by Fishbowls out of this depot?
Thanks.....

I know it was rehabbed and all that (if you're asking about Kingsbridge), rebuilt from the ground up . . . the Macks all disappeared by 1967 (all at Amsterdam by that point), the Old Looks 1970 or so (exiled in their last years to the outer boroughs in 'Tee-Yay' service). |

W.B.:
Info much appreciated!
Approaching my teens in the late 60's, it seems as though the last Old Looks I can remember in Manhattan were the "buses with the sign that stuck out in the front" (which is what I called these buses at the time); these buses simply riveted themselves into my mind, and, even though I was jut a kid, I'm glad I had the chance to see them and ride them.
Dang shame even ONE was not saved for preservation......

.....am curious as to what buses replaced the last Brooklyn streetcars in 1956; I'm guessing that these might have been the 6000-series MACK C-49's.....

The 7000 series TDH-5106's were just around the corner (in every which way). |

I had originally thought the the 7000 series TDH-5106's replaced the last streetcars, but then remembered they arrived in 1957, after the streetcars were gone.....

No doubt prior to those 7000's arriving, they covered with either trackless trolleys or whatever buses (from the 5101's to the 'Binghams' to the 6000's). |

......recall, also, the nine year-gap of Old Look purchases (1948/1957); the "Tee-Yay purchased a number of MACKS during those "gap years".......

.....it always puzzles me why the TWIN COACH 41-S buses were ever purchased; they were indeed "oddballs" in the fleet, and did not enjoy long service lives with the "Tee-Yay".
I always wondered why GMC's or MACKS were not purchased instead.....
