Fellows:
From the mid-1930's until the last vestiges of the once-vast streetcar network in Brooklyn were motorized in 1956, the B&QT's PCC's had the distinction of being the only PCC's to operate in New York.
Only 100 prewar cars ever operated in Brooklyn; though St. Louis-built trolley buses were delivered after the War, no orders for new postwar PCC's for Brooklyn were ever placed (former Mayor LaGuardia vowed that all streetcars in New York would be gone by 1960.
For now, let's take a nostalgic look back to the days when sleek PCC's were still common, everyday sights in Brooklyn......

When this photo was snapped post-1944, the B&QT's streetcars that crossed the Brooklyn Bridge to Park Row had been shifted over to the former El tracks (the BMT El trains stopped crossing the bridge in 1944)
The final streetcars over the BB ran in 1950........

The Park Row trolley loops, circa-1950.
Until it was torn down in 1944, the massive BMT elevated terminal sheltered these loops from the elements.......

Here's a circa-1955 view of Church Avenue & E. 93rd; note the old "TROLLEY STATION" sign, once a commonplace fixture in Brooklyn, mounted on the pole.......

As the only CLARK-built PCC in the B&QT fleet, #1000 had a distinctive look that set it apart from the rest of the PCC fleet........

Looks like either an ERA or NRHS fan trip might be in progress, here; note the train of prewar IND cars rumbling along overhead......

PCC #1036 is seen here climbing up from the underpass at Church Avenue and Ocean Parkway.
After streetcar service ended, the rails were removed and shipped to the Branford (Shore Line) trolley museum, and the underpass itself was filled in........

In this post-1944 view (looking west), a PCC has just left the Park Row loops and is crossing the Brooklyn Bridge; by this time, the streetcars had been shifted over to the former BMT elevated tracks, and the former streetcar tracks on the vehicular roadways had been paved over to allow for an additional traffic lane in each direction.
Demolition of the massive Park Row and Sands Street elevated terminal buildings began after the El trains made their last runs across the bridge in 1944......
