See...you learn something NEW here every day!
Interesting, also that the TCRT's boats were painted yellow, like their streetcars.
The PSNJ ferryboats (which carried both passengers and vehicles) were all painted red, which was indeed NOT a color used for their streetcars!

Interesting trivia..........
The small steam ferries operated by the TCRT were known locally as "Yellow Jackets"........

PSNJ's ferries........
New York-bound commuters riding to the 125th Street Ferry Terminal at Edgewater (via PSNJ streetcar/vus) were still required to pay an extra fare for the ferry, despite the fact that, until 1943, the ferries were also operated by PSNJ.
In 1943, the 125th Street crossing was sold to "ELECTRIC FERRIES", which operated the line until it was shut down in December, 1950........

This 1934 photo shows on of PS's "3500" series cars laying over adjacent to the busy 125th Street Ferry Terminal at Edgewater, signed for a school tripper run.
In the background, towards the rear of the car (and above) you can see the smokestack of one of the PS ferryboats (note the PS insignia)..............

Indeed!
Interestingly, the car in the photo was one of a handful of "3500s" that was not upgraded in the late 1920s, and repainted in the new "De Luxe" scheme.
The speedy "3500s" were the backbone of the busy "HUDSON RIVER" line (Edgewater-Paterson) until the line went to buses in 1938..........

The end of the line......
This sad photo dates to 1938, and was taken at almost the same location as the photo whose link I posted earlier (Edgewater)
https://www.nycsubway.org/perl/show?118349
Here we see a "De Luxe" 3500-series car displaying a banner that announces the replacement of the "HUDSON RIVER" line streetcars with buses.
Look closely in the right background and you'll glimpse the pilothouse of a PS ferry laying over between runs.
The "HUDSON RIVER" line was the last BERGEN Division line to go over to buses...........

From the photos I've seen, PSNJ certainly kept their equipment looking nice. I even liked their buses! When did the PSNJ ferries quit?

Cyberider:
As I had mentioned earlier, PSNJ sold off their ferry operations in 1943; the 125th Street line was sold to "ELECTRIC FERRIES", which retired the old PS stream ferries, and continued operating the crossing until December, 1950, using diesel-electrics.
Interestingly, two of the PS boats were purchased from the LIRR, and had upper deck passenger cabins installed.
At the end of service on the 125th St. crossing, the boats then operated between St. George (Staten Island) and 69th Street, Brooklyn (Mom and I rode this VERY busy line many times before it closed down in November of 1964.............

Thanks for the info, NYO. Sounds like your Mom was aiding and abetting your interest in transit! Or was she a fan too?

To say you are TOTALLY corrrect in your astute observation would indeed be the BIGGEST understatement of ALL TIME!!!!
Thanks to Mom, I was able to experience a vast world of colorful and diverse mass transit at a very early age, before it all disappeared!

Edgewater Terminal, circa-1910 (main portion of the ferry terminal is out of the photo to the right)........
This busy rush-hour scene shows quite a flurry of rush-hour activity; at the time, the streetcar operations were known as the "PUBLIC SERVICE RAILWAY".
A "3500" Series car is in the foreground.
The last streetcars connected with the ferryboats in 1938.
Today, this area is totally unrecognizable (I live just minutes away, so I know this area well)
In the distance (looking north) note, also, the sidewheel excursion boat; this was one of the "IRON STEAMBOAT COMPANY's" majestic walking-beam excursion boats, which ran from Manhattan to Coney Island, until the early 1930s.
During the winter months, the boats were laid up at Edgewater, as seen here...............

Great photo, NYO! Plenty of streetcar action and the ferry. Wish I could see the ferry better. The "walking beams" were interesting to watch in action. I think either SP or Key had an older ferry with that feature too.

Cyberider:
Indeed, that old photo had a LOT of streetcar activity going on; rush hours were ALWAYS hectic, at terminal!
Regarding walking-beams, none of the KEY's boats had walking beams; their ferryboats, the most modern on the Bay at that time, all had propellers.
The ESPEE, on the other hand, DID operate several walking-beam boats.
These included the following:
"SACRAMENTO"
"OAKLAND"
"EUREKA"
The NWP operated the "CAZADERO".
The "EUREKA", today restored and preserved, was the last beam-engine ferry on the Bay, and lasted in ESPEE service to Oakland Pier until the mid-1950s...........
