Two views of rather new Surface Transit GM TDH-5301.

Note the vintage Johnson coffee grinder, model D, fare box on number 3175.

EXCELLENT (and indeed nostalgic!) photos-------REAL buses for sure! Very Happy It's always odd to see a SURFACE bus painted in ANYTHING but the traditional ST paint; the new paint-indeed-would be "in sync" with FACL (would be interesting-had SURFACE stayed independent) alsopurchased "Dangerfields"! Wink Again-THANK YOU for posting these EXCELLENT old photos (Ahhh-if only we could go back to those days!) Rolling Eyes "NYO"

Funny . . . FACL's "Jetsons" had Grant Electrofarer fareboxes.

But . . . notice, all those initial "Jetsons" for both FACL and Surface had 3-piece rear windows. A few may've been retroconverted to 4-piece within their last years of service. But indeed, FACL owned Surface at this point, so it figured they'd both share the same green-and-cream paint scheme. Remember, both entities' last "Shermans" had the same layout design for the exteriors, as did ST's last "Pattons."

WB: As Your's Truly has stated in the past-the antique toy Fishbowls I own-all depict both three and four-windows at the rear; one rare battery-op Fishbowl that's in Your's Truly's collection is a real "rare bird"--------featuring a sedan door-a rounded rear-and "Rocky Brill-boa" type windows!!!! (AND and a/c unit at the rear!) Shocked The legend "AIR CONDITIONED" is carried on the sides--------PLUS a QUITE realistic front end! Wink "NYO"

Another thing about #3175 . . .

. . . as late as 1960, the color scheme on the roll signs were the reverse of FACL's lot: red for route numbers, black for end destination signs. Even with them mylar from Transign.

I do wonder where the picture of #3185 . . .

. . . was taken, though. I know at least the first 15 of the allotted ST "Jetsons" were assigned to Amsterdam where they ran on M-104 and M-106 buses, thus within the "tonier" sections of Manhattan.

It also begs as to why some pics of the ST "Jetsons," in their later years under " 'stoa," had the route numbers on the right side of the front sign.

WB: Good call! I had noticed the roller curtain colors also; way way back in the "olden days"-a lot of "Joisey" buses (particularly the suburbans) would use a "side" portion of the front roller curtain where the lettering was white on red (last I recall these were on the ex-ORANGE & BLACK Fishbowls-back in the 1980-s-before NJT sent these hard-working and still sleek buses out to pasture)--------"NYO"
