W.B.:

I also wonder how this Aussie company was able to use the copyrighted "SCENIUCRUISER" name (there had to be some legal work to get through, here)

Actually, this bus echoes quite a few of the "Stylized Fishbowls" in my vintage toy bus collection...... Wink

Wonder if anybody in Flxible's design department worked in the companies that designed those respective vehicles. Remember, the Twins had that type front window setup before the 'Dangerfields' were even so much a gleam in Flx designers' eyes.

W.B.:

I have often thought the same thing myself.

According to "FAGEOL & TWIN COACH BUSES" (Luke) the first modern postwar TWINS to have that distinctive windshield appeared in 1945 (this was the Model 44-S)

There was also a very interesting one-of-a-kind prototype postwar bus built for "AMERICAN BUS LINES" of Chicago.

This was a highway coach, the "HIGHWAY LUXURY LINER"; it was designated the Model 360.

This bus also had the distinctive "TRAILWAYS" eagle on its sides.

Interesting, too, that it had a small destination sign box built into its door.

From the one photo I have seen (in the Luke book), this bus was not only a very distinctive-looking vehicle, but also, one that looked quite powerful and solid ......

Note that the "Art Deco" clearance lights used on the first-generation Fishbowls seem to have been inspired (at least somewhat) by the (larger) streamlined clearance lights used on the postwar TWINS......

Note on Flxible Twin 6000
the miserably small destination UNIVERSITY AVENUE,
and the fare at 13 cents.
No year given.

Joe:

Speaking of small destinations signs, look at the left-hand side of the signs of these postwar MACKS; "eye tests", for certain.

SURFACE was obviously not that enamored with postwar TWINS; the "Bee-Oh-Tee"-purchased TWINS were certainly in the ultra-minority in the "Tee-Yay" fleet.

These "misfit" buses (holding down Brooklyn runs) were gone by the mid-50's; these buses were not even a decade old when they were retired; strange that buses that new were not purchased by another operator.....

Not to mention the front roll signs being obsolete; by 1955 that whole route was now M-15 - First & Second Avenues, whilst M-13 was the designation for a shuttle going to and from the New York Journal American building (a.k.a. the "Journal Building Omnibus Line"). Not until GM's Old Look 7000's came on the 'Tee-Yay' property in 1957, and Manhattan got its share, did updated route numbering roll signs show up on the buses that ran along those Manhattan routes taken over in 1948 by the 'Bee O'Tee' from Comprehensive Omnibus and East Side Omnibus.

For comparison, check out the "large format" roller curtain displayed by "Tee-Yay" Fishbowl #4499...........

Here's "Dangerfield" #5657; though the roller curtain was not properly set, it clearly was still quite easy to decipher, especially from a distance.......
