That's right. Ten of the 'Dangerfields' of the 1977 order were actually 53102-8-1's - 9155-9159 for the 'Tee-Yay', 9160-9164 for MaBSTOA.

It interesting to consider what the "Tee-Yay" fleet of the 1960's might have been like, had the "Tee-Yay" gone as "gung-ho" for the "Dangerfields" as the CTA did.

Interestingly enough, back in the 60's, the CTA ordered 150 Fishbowls along with a like number of GM Fishbowls, for a "side-by-side" comparison.

The CTA, in fact, continued to heavily favor "Dangerfields" for years until 1972, when they took delivery of a large number of T8H-5307A's Fishbowls, followed large influxes of GM's in both 1974 and 1976.......

Check out the windshield on this FLYER trolleybus; it is clear that this windshield was inspired (at least in part) by that used on the "Dangerfields" (perhaps, the "Dangerfields" DID get a little "respect" after all?)........ Wink

I seem to remember that most of Grumman's "Borough Bombers," with the exception of the lot meant for Avenue B & East Broadway, were designated 53102-8-1, as well.

Hearing the talk about frames as they relate to "Borough Bombers" reminds me of a 1971 Johnny Carson "Art Fern" routine where the sleazy movie show pitchman was selling a house with an " 'A' frame" and the punchline was, "Aaaaay, that's a frame!"

Ahh, yes!

I DO recall that Carson skit; during summer vacations, way, way, back, I watched the great Carson every night without fail (recall. also, "Aunt Blabby" and "The Great Karnak"!) Wink

Speaking about "Borough Bombers" A-frames, imagine comparing them to the "underbodies" of such tough, swaggering, street-wise hulks, known as "Bulldogs"? Shocked

NO COMPARISON!!!!!!! Razz

Quite awhile back (somewhere online) there was a discussion concerning the structural stability of the front ends of Fishbowls and "Dangerfields", in comparison to older buses with smaller windshields (such as Old Looks and MACKS)

Though, without a doubt, the Fishbowls and the "Dangerfields" were "tanks" compared to the lightweight buses in use nowadays, it is still interesting to ponder the front-end structural strength of these buses (also, the safety of a driver in case of a serious accident)

I also recall reading that the windshields on the Fishbowls were nearly 3 times larger than those used on older buses.

I still can remember an early 1960's newspaper photo as a kid, showing the thoroughly mangled front of a suburban (NJ) Fishbowl that had been involved in a serious highway accident on its way into New York.

Many years later, I saw this same photo in a book about historic auto/vehicle accidents; it seemed even more frightening.

Granted, I've seen many photos of Old Looks (and other older buses) where their front ends had been pretty mangled after a particularly serious altercation with either another vehicle or a stationary object, but, even given their long and admirable safety record through the years, you cannot help but wonder.......

All one had to do, back in the day, was to compare the windshield of a Fishbowl to that of a "Dangerfield", you could easily tell that GM's windshield was an original design.

The windshields on the "Dangerfields", however, clearly were much larger versions of those used on the postwar TWINS.

Then, too, recall the windshields used on the "New Look" MACKS........
