This was what I meant about the shifting to the left of such signs. Out there is a B&W photo from 1967 of MaBSTOA bus #5508, with 'VIA 7 AVE' after the '2A TO 8 ST' on the front roll sign, to the next lane of ex-FACCo "Queen Mary" #2124 (likewise courtesy nycsubway.org):

W.B.:

As always, greatly appreciate your information regarding rollsigns and their variations over the years; your input always adds a lot more "depth" to a given photo! Wink

I noticed the driver, with no cap, and no tie; I've always wondered why most bus drivers (in both "Noo Yawk" and "Joisey") began to "ditch" the full uniform look in the later 60's and 1970's.

Granted, it was a bit more comfortable when driving a non a/c bus during the hot, sticky summers, but, IMHO, I always felt that the "full uniform" always added its own bit of "professional class".

From many of the old photos we've seen and discussed here, you could tell what drivers were "old timers" and had no intention of "going casual", so to speak.

These were the old "die hards" that still remain clearly etched in my memory...... Very Happy

"Purist" that I am, I was never fond of lower-case roller curtains on older model buses......the same held true for older subway cars..... Razz
