Notice Flx 5058 in pic #1621 has the original 1959 Transign roll sign in front, obviously taken from the first-gen GM Fishbowls and inserted into that Flx. The front roll sign on the first GM T6H-5309 produced (6000) appears to have been from the late 1960's to 1971 period (though some side signs with that classic Transign type as seen on eBay are dated as late as early 1972).

That front roll sign, apparently cloth, was fashioned in 1960 for the allocation of second-order 'Tee-Yay' Fishbowls that were initially assigned to the depots of the Manhattan Bus Division, and thus regularly seen on that route. A 1969 pic of the very first TA New Look had another 1960 front sign on then-route #1 (now M22) - this and other pics coming courtesy bus.nycsubway.org:

https://bus.nycsubway.org/perl/show?215

No doubt the routes seen on that front sign would have been 1, 3, 7, 11, 13 (the Journal Building shuttle) and 15. Appears the B78 front sign made for the Flatbush depot as on that same bus the year before was of same vintage:

W.B.:

Once again, your knowledge of roll signs is truly encyclopedic, and I thank you, once again, for taking the time to post a lot of what you know here, to share with the rest of "the boys"...... Wink

One of the things I've found quite interesting (which I've learned from you) was reading of roller curtains transferred from GMC's to Flexs, and the altering/grafting of roller curtains when buses were transferred to other depots (and/or other routes)

Of course, in today's hi-tech world of electronic signage, what was once commonplace to us older enthusiasts "back in the day", is now as ancient as sidewheel ferryboats plying the waters of New York harbor........

Electronic signage was pretty much still "science fiction" when these now-classic photos were snapped......

One of my all-time favorite Old Look photos (Broadway & Park Row, 1972)

Old Look #7075* was nearing retirement when this now-timeless photo was taken, nearly 50 years ago.

Note that there is no curtain in #7075's sign box (bulbs are visible)

Also, note the old-school "Tee Yay" man on the left.....

Fishbowl #665, back in 1971, seen here sporting an empty sign box.

A barely readable cardboard/paper sign is taped to the windshield.....

But interesting how 6900's served the B88 while 4500's of that batch plied the M41:

W.B.:

You must have just seen that incorrect link just as I realized my mistake! Shocked

No matter! Wink

"NYO"

That vintage "thee-ater" marquee hawking a "Bruce Lee" film dates the photo as much as the bus does! Very Happy

Here are views of the rollsign from the 132nd Street Depot. Note the splicing of newer readings for the #4 land #5 line as well as newer routes assigned to the depot.
