traildriver:

GREAT link; thanks for sharing here! Wink

It's strange, too, that, when one remembers that when "full sized" Old Look production ended in 1959, General Motors continued to produce "baby" Old Looks (TDH and TGH-3501 and -3502)

With the exception of new quad headlights, these buses were virtually identical to an Old Look from pre-1948, complete with square windows, no less! Shocked

Yup, it is no wonder that the once-mighty GM once dominated the bus industry..........sadly, it was a long, long time ago...... Sad

Mention must be made of the ROHR demo; perhaps the UGLIEST bus (or, at least, one of them) to ever operate on the streets of New York*...... Sad

*This photo was snapped just outside the GWB terminal in '75.....

The front electronic sign resembled the type display of Luminator signs as seen on control consoles of the RTS' that had them, and thus from the bus driver's perspective.

My all-time favorite RTS has always been the original "slant back" models (either Series 01 or 03)

These buses I have only seen in photos; I never got the chance to either ride one or see one, "up close".

GM's RTS production ended in May, 1987, ending 62 years of bus production at Pontiac*.

Yes, in more ways than one, a long and legendary era in American bus production came to an end.

"New"-model Old Looks, seen here operating for CHAPPAQUA TRANSIT; externally, only the quad headlights are the give-away that these buses were built in the 1960's, and not the 1940's!

Forerunner to the RTS, the experimental"TRANSBUS" (or "X" Bus)*, seen here at Junction Boulevard & 62nd, back in 1975.

When this photo was snapped, Fishbowls were still being built!

*( I cannot help wondering what a certain Gotham Bus Company driver would have made out of this futuristic vehicle!) Shocked

Speaking of early "slant back" RTS buses, check out this 40-year old scene at Parsons Blvd & 88th Avenue......

When I lived in Boulder, CO., Public Service Company (of Colorado), was the operator of the Boulder City Bus system, until the RTD took it over in the mid-seventies...they had a fleet consisting of these.

traildriver:

Back in the 1980's (or early 90's), when I worked on Wall Street, I'd often see one of these "New Old Looks" on Broadway, that was working some sort of "promotional" route, regarding some new condos/townhouses/residential area....well, you get the picture.

I STILL remember how NOISY that bugger was!

I also took a few pics, back in 1978, of several buses of this type, equipped with school flashers and "SCHOOL BUS" sign plates, down at the old bus yard in Hoboken, then a real treasure trove for vintage bus enthusiasts....

The CNG RTS buses, back in the day, I always referred to as "Humpbacks".

Here, in this undated photo, we see a disabled COMMAND "Humpback" being towed back to home base........
