Fellows:
Ever notice how when many bus fans hear another mention "New Look", they, almost, to the last man, they think of a GM product (I will admit that I am VERY guilty of this!)
IMHO, it seems as though the Flex New Look was often regarded (at least to some) as a "knockoff" of GM's famed New Look.
Granted, the GM's DID garner much, more publicity when they first debuted than their Flex cousins ever did.
The last time I rode on any Flex New Look was in 1997; this was an ex-WAMATA bus, then being used on what once was NHBL's #1 local between Nungessers and Journal Square.
In previous years, I regarded the NYCTA's/MTA's Flex New Looks as quite exotic; it was not until 1976, when hundreds of NJDOT Flex New Looks began operating for a number of Jersey carriers (needless to say, I liked them from the start; the ONLY thing I did NOT like about them was that they allowed most of the remaining Old Looks to be retired)
In any event, I think we should at least pause and reflect for a few moments, and remember these handsome, hard-working buses of another era.....

LOVED the original green scheme (my all-time FAVORITE NYCTA New Look bus paint!)

"A BRONX TALE" (1973)
A distinct mood of bittersweet nostalgia indeed permeates this now-vanished scene......

INHO, it seems as though the Flex New Look seemed to me (at least to some) a "knockoff" of GM's famed New Look.

I never considered the Flxibles as "new looks". A bit of a misnomer since it's not really replacing a Flxible "old look" as GM did. These are really considered first generation buses even though the Flxible name shared the Twin Coach badges back when it absorbed Twin Coach. Those coaches were actually Twin Coaches in nature - even Chicago's #8499 when the front clip was replaced with the new clip. The original first generation Flxibles continued using the duel badges before using only the Flxible name sometime after 1962.
