....that is a VERY "atmospheric" photo, to be sure.....the slush, grit, and grime that city buses still contend with to this day, here seen under the shadows of the hulking ex-BMT El structure.

BTW, those now-classic R-27/30 subway cars above sure look a lot worse for wear, since the scourge of graffiti began rearing its ugly head in the early 70's. Sad

Another great old photo....thanks for sharing here..... Wink

Two more scenes from the past...

First, a Surface Transit TDH-5301, #3161, on route 106 - 42nd Street Crosstown seen sometime in 1960-1961.

Secondly, a MaBSTOA. TDH-5303, #6860, on route 101

OUTSTANDING photos, as always....thanks for sharing! Very Happy

To be honest, I could learn to tolerate snow if Fishbowls were still "out and about"........ Wink

Like the Old Looks before them, a Fishbowl could slug through all but the worst of storms.......those old tanks MORE than earned their keep, way back when........ Smile

My favorite bus models of all times were the TDH-4510 and the TDH-3612/3714.

But I fell in love with the TDH-5303 (MaBSTOA) during a snow storm.

Nothing like looking out the windshield as the snow came down!

Here in NJ, I used to love watching those HUGE wipers on the Fishbowls fight the snow; there certainly was a VAST amount of glass to be cleared on those old tanks!

Back in the day, you KNEW the snow was bad, when even the Old Looks and the Fishbowls started to waver....baby, it's COLD outside!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Shocked Shocked

So evidently the first of the ST New Looks went to Amsterdam depot. And nice; pics of FACL and ST New Looks in any weather are especially rare.

New York City Omnibus 2629... in this thread you mentioned the International Travelall vehicles the TA owned.

Am still looking for photos of these vehicles however, in the meantime I found the following...

Am not a Ford expert but that looks like a 1955-56 Ford "Mainline" 2 door basic model.

The paint scheme resembles the one used by the NYPD in those days and the rectangular box on the roof ahead of the domed beacon light says "PATROL" white letters on a red background.

Note the door emblem and the Mack C-50-DT in the background

And here is the 1966's version of the supervisor's car, a Ford Fairlane, basic model, 4 door with the red beacon light still on the roof. The "TA" emblem as used on buses and subway.

MaBSTOA 15:

Once again, yet again, you have MORE than excelled at pulling still more rare and wonderful old views from your "magic hat".....THANK YOU for posting here! Wink

The '55/'56 FORD certainly looked familiar to me; my first car (which cost me all of $75 back in 1976!) was a '55 Ford Customline Fordor (I'd STILL have that car today, had it not been an incident that was totally beyond my control) Sad

The "golden" FACCo. open-topper, seen in the 1966 photo always reminds me of my later mother; that bus debuted thew same year she did! (1917); she well remembered the open-toppers on 5th venue as a girl.

Again, these photos were not only quite a pleasant surprise but also, yet another wonderfully nostalgic "trip back into time"........thanks once
again....... Very Happy

.......dang, pictures like break me up....... Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

I STILL shudder, every time I use a new razor, wondering if the blade was once a re-re-re-re-re-re-recycled Old Look or Fishbowl.......... Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad

The Transit Authority was prepared for any weather condition that could impede any transit service.

Here we see a line up of Jeep model FC-150 (forward control) with snow plows from the Surface Maintenance Dept.

Is that the East New York depot?

Some of the ex-TA TDH-4507 last serve New York as Snow Fighters, and we see the bus ready for its load of sand that will be deposited through an opening on the roof by way of the conveyor belt at the far right.

Lastly, a Mack heavy duty tow truck, in front of streetcars, likely it was used to tow buses and trolleys out of snow drifts or simply when they broke down.
