W.B.:

Again, greatly appreciate the additional "behind-the-scenes" data you always take the time to share here with us. Wink

Regarding the classic "OA" insignia, I'm guessing that the very last were replaced with the new "MTA" logo no later than 1972 or 1973; I know I've NEVER seen a photo of a BLUE MaBSTOA bus STILL sporting its old "OA" insignia! Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

From what I have learned from your vast treasure trove of knowledge, the side roller curtains alone made for a most interesting study! Wink

42nd & 1st, 1974 (remember when most "Noo Yawk" winters looked like this!) Shocked

Though both buses are still in "Tee-Yay" green, the bus on the left is now carrying new roller curtains......

You might want to take a closer look - the bus on the right of the photo (6777) appears blue/blue to me.

I just looked again, and that bus on the left still looks green to me; no matter, no one is looking to win any contests here! Laughing

That snowy scene from so long ago (Your's Truly turned 17 just three days after that photo was snapped!) reminds of the days when Old Looks and Fishbowls still were equipped with tire chains (remember, I grew up in New Jersey!); that musical clinking of those chains were like the urban version of sleigh bells! Wink

I saw the pic. 6777 in the front is definitely the newer MTA two-tone blue; it's 8448 behind it that has its original 'Tee-Yay' dark green paint scheme.

Chatham Sq. & E. Broadway, 1972.

Here #8478 is signed "NO PASSENGERS", and still carries the old "OA" emblem.

Note, also, the 1960's Fishbowl "BUS STOP" signs.

Vintage streelight buffs (this includes Your's Truly) will also like this nostalgic slice of "Olde Noo Yawk"........ Wink

By that time, 8459-8477 would have had their seating converted for express-bus service, all rounded up together at 100th Street depot where 8478 was also based.

Speaking of 'Bus Stop' signs . . .

There were two types: that, plus another where they just had 'BUS STOP and a down arrow, for use on el columns that are where such stops are near. However, one of 'those' bus stop signs was used on a non-el stop, at Ninth Avenue between 58th and 59th Streets, as of 1975, per this clip from WPIX Channel 11 . . .

W.B.:

The sign I have in my collection was given to me by my supervisor (may he RIP) who was then living in Staten Island; he was waiting for his express bus one morning, and he saw an MTA worker taking the old "Fishbowl" sign down, in preparation for putting up a new sign.

My supervisor asked the guy if he could have it, because: "my friend who I work with is really into buses."

With no further words, the guy just gave the sign to my supervisor, who simply put it under his arm and took it with him on the bus into Lower Manhattan.

Let me tell you, I was one VERY happy man that day....what a surprise!!! (cannot believe I now have that sign displayed about 36 years now!) Shocked
