Seen on a warm spring day in Louisville (The Derby City) Kentucky in 1961 is fleet number 413 - a 1953 GM Coach Model TGH 3102 and one of twenty likenesses numbered 401 to 420 delivered to the Louisville Railway Company in that year.
While Louisville sent five of these coaches directly to its Capital Transit subsidiary operation in Frankfurt, Kentucky, it made good use of the balance to replace aging Ford Transits on its lower volume feeder routes.
The small gasoline powered 'Hydra-Matic' TGH 3102, which appeared to look much like its heavy duty cousins but was built entirely differently, did fill a niche left by the demise of Ford's offering and, while it held no production record with only 1600 copies sold, its availability in GM's catalog from 1953 to 1963 made it the longest running model in the company's history.
Of interest is the fact that under windshield floor vents were standard on GM's heavy duty transits and only omitted upon customer request, while such luxury was an extra on the 'ecoline' with Louisville opting for only one in-let directly at the driver's feet.
