NYO -
The SEP 1941 rendering may have been done considering a shortage of aluminum for side panels? The US wasn't
directly into WWII at date, but view "03" prompts some thought. At the time, US shipped a great deal of aircraft
for use by the Brits...
The 14 AUG 1951 rendering of a design more fanciful than practical. That ain't me opining! See the printed Histories!)

Vern......
The 14 AUG 1951 design?
I fully concur!
However, I am sure that the "scouts" out in the field, working for the many Japanese tin toy manufacturers surely had some fun with it, at a later date!<G>
SILVERSIDES and SCENICRUISERS were good, solid, reliable designs, stylishly designed and built to last, without the need of any fanciful frills......

Concur. The "1951" indeed a complete fantasy. An operations problem, quickly obvious: How to get the cash for toll road charges
to the collectors in enroute stations? This was well before computer ID decals, E-Z Pass, and all the rest...
Besides, Loewy did not understand the Package Express cargo. The underfloor needed for Express and Packages, not riders!

Thanks for providing those fascinating drawings. I have never seen those before....
The 1951 double decker looks like it was derived from the earlier 'GX-1' Highway Traveler, but notable differences such as the third axle...
By 1951, the 'GX-2' Scenicruiser prototype was already on the road, I believe, and the production 'PD4501' pilot model was near its final design stage. So this rendering is a mystery to me...
It is also interesting that Greyhound's O S Caesar is credited as 'co-inventor' with Mr. Loewy. |
