I was browsing our vast collection of photos here at BusTalk's Gallery and found an interesting image in the form of a 1935 promotion by the Long Island State Parkway Commission touting the advantages of using specially provided shuttle buses to Jones Beach during the summer season.
Accompanying the photo was a question as to what kind of bus was shown in the picture and who operated it (they certainly came to the right person for answers to those questions!).
The bus is a 1930 ACF Model 511-2-H2 (dubbed the 'Metropolitan') and was operated by Bee Line, Inc. of Rockville Centre, New York on what became the N-88 route between the Freeport Long Island Railroad Station and the Central Mall at the beach.
The Model 511-2-H2 was an attempt by ACF to compete with the then very successful 'Street Car' design that Twin Coach had introduced in 1927 and that dominated the field for the next ten years.
Note the familiar Bee Line 'Bumble Bee' logo amidships.
