I found the reference to the Hydrashift feature found on some 4104s in a copy of a International Bus Collector Magazine which has a complete reproduction of the operator's manual for the PD4104 bus. It's a matter of where I buried the darn thing, but I DO have it here somewhere. Evidently this was offered near the end of the production run of this coach. The one 4104 that Lockport Bus Lines bought new, No.34, evidently had the pull button on the gearshift lever as did some others that I rode on. All told, Lockport Bus Lines had eleven of these buses, most of them passed through to them from Greyhound via Grand Island Transit, whose nos. 106 (with pantograph wiper on driver's side) and 108 were the last 4104s to be disposed of by Grand Island. Lockport also had a couple 4103s, which I last saw at 672 Main sTreet (Greyhound) in Buffalo in 1970-71, by which time, Lockport finished wearing them out. Both were ex Greyhound coaches as was the 4106 they picked up in their final years in business. |
