MaBSTOAs first Flxible New Looks number 4664 to 4727 were assigned specifically to the Bronx.

Numbers 4600-4663 based at West Farms Depot
Numbers 4664-4727 based at Coliseum Depot

At the same time NYCTA also received the same Flxible model 111CC-D5-1 their buses were numbered 4000 to 4202. They arrived in 1969-1970. They arrived in green with no roof line script and sporting the new two tone blue M emblem placed above the front door and drivers window.

NYCTAs low numbers were assigned to Fresh Pond Depot. Not sure were the balanced where assigned to.

I rode on 4001 on route B-58 to Ridgewood. I have a photo of the front end and from the inside towards the driver as he was turning the bus. All photos taken with a Kodak Instamatic.

I found their air suspension ride not as bouncing as the first Triboro Coach Flxibles.

By the way the GM New Looks all models TDH-5303 in 1970 outnumbered the Flxibles at both depots.

Coliseum had 218 buses 64 Flxibles and 154 GM
West Farms had 195 buses 64 Flxibles and 131 GM

MaBSTOA 15:

As always, I greatly appreciate you taking the time to post mire historical "Noo Nawk" bus info; thank you! Wink

With PSNJ/TNJ, virtually all garages were facilities where suburban and transit Fishbowls MORE than dominated; the only exceptions were the 4104s/4106, and "Buffalos" (and remaining Old Looks)

Things remained pretty much "status qio" until the later 1970s, when nearly 900 NJDOT "Dangerfields" began arriving in large numbers, indeed giving the veteran Fishbowls nore than a run their money.

If course, the NJDOT "Dangerfields" killed off all of PSNJ's/TNJ's Old Looks, as well as those of ""ORANGE & BLACK". Sad

Still later, the Metro "Bs", VOLVO artics, and big MCI's oisted the lasting remaining veteran Fishbowls.

The RTS eventually replaced the hard-working "Bs", themselves to be replaced in later years by the boxy-looking NABIs, themselves now poised for retirement.

The former "indy" companies all followed likewise with a steady influx of "Dangerfields", starting in the later 1970s.......

'BALANCING ACT".........

This MIGHT have been covered here, long ago, but, am not sure; my curiosity is getting the better of me, here.....

At any time, did the NYCTA or the MTA ever try to "balance out" the assignments of Fishbowls and "Dangerfields" to the different depots scattered throughout the boroughs, that both types of buses were, more or less, equally distributed?

Appreciate info......

If there was any "balancing," it must've been when the 1974-77 "Dangerfields" first entered "soivice." By the time the last of those arrived on "Tee-Yay" and " 'stoa" property, the first " 'stoa" Fishbowls (numbered 3301-3555) were being phased out for retirement.

W.B.:

Appreciate the info; thanks!

As I had said earlier, there was really no need for PSNJ/TNJ to "balance out" their fleet, garage-wise, seeing as their fleets were entirely "Gee-Em" (that is,until the NJDOT "Dangerfields" began arriving in the later 1970s)...........
