One of my all-time favorite "Dangerfield" photos (Flatbush & 3rd, 1980)..... Wink

In this all-"Dangerfield" scene, we get to see three different paint schemes together.

#5632, as can be seen here, is the only bus still wearing the original "Tee-Yay" green...............

Glenwood & Rockaway Parkway, 1981......

Here, "Dangerfield" #5614 not only is sporting its original green paint, but, also, its classic "New York City Transit Authority" script over the windows.

A fleetmate follows, repainted into the recent blue-and-white scheme......

Agreed; that photo was, indeed, NOT of the best quality.....not by a long shot.

But, again, it was quite a symbolic image, especially that the veteran "Jetson" was still wearing its original "Tee-Yay" green, from 20-odd years back...............

I know, agreed. But that the "Are-Tee-Ess" looks like one of the "PA" numbers . . .

W.B.:

It's funny how we both can "click" on something that might otherwise be ignored; as poor quality as that photo was, I also was leaning toward the "Are-Tee-Es" being in the "PA" series.

Of course, as it was only a "background" vehicle in said photo, its number was not documented in the caption....... Sad

Here's a photo of "Are-Tee-Es" #1499 (MTA file photo), taken back in 1983; note the "Dangerfield" just behind..............

This time, we have "Are-Tee-Es" "PA2419" working the "M10", back in '83............

On a gloomy day back in '82, see see "PA1385" laying over at the Rockaway Parkway station (note the bedraggled "R-27/R-30s" in the background)...........

I noticed, of the "Pea-Yay"-tagged " 'stoa" set, the lower-numbered were based in Manhattan, whilst the higher-numbered (up to PA2579, the last of that first "Torpedo" set to bear TransDot electronic signs) were all assigned to "da Bronx."

W.B.:

Thanks, as always, for the additional info.

Just curious, when the "Em-Tee-Yay" first started taking delivery of "Torpedoes", who got the first?

"Em-Tee-Yay" or "stoa" routes?

Or, were the buses more or less equally divided between the two?

The "Tee-Yay" and " 'stoa" "Torpedoes" were pretty much around the same time period, in summer 1981.

Thanks.

No doubt, some of these buses replaced the few remaining "Jetson" Fishbowls as well...........

Interesting note:

In "AMERICAN BUSES" (Jacobs, 1985) there are a number of "Noo Yawk" bus photos (MTA and private carriers)

One interesting photo shows a passenger flagging down "Dangerfield" #7305, with "Torpedo" #2219 loading at the curb on the left (I think this photo was taken somewhere on 8th Avenue; cannot make out the "Dangerfield's" roller curtain, but I can just make out "Via 8th Av" on the "Torpedoe's" sign).............

.......another interesting photo shows a "Borough Bomber" (make that a "Baltimore Bomber") awaiting delivery to "The Monumental City" at FLXIBLE's factory.

Another shows a sleeping passenger aboard an MTA "Torpedo", dozing in the rearmost seats, with the caption:

"......GMC city bus with a ride so smooth passengers can fall asleep......."

Photo caption tells us that the bus was near E. 23rd Street....................
