Weather...........
Seems most focus is on beach erosion and above average tidal flows at times of high tide.
Here again, I'm thinking of St. George, Tottenville, and Hoboken (and the now-closed South Ferry loops, used now only for train reversal)........

I had forgotten about CIY's close proximity to the Atlantic Ocean; then, too, there is Coney Island Creek.
Also, the HUDSON LINE (MN) practically riding on the very edge of the Hudson.
Tottenville, well, we both know the story there (regarding flooding at high tides during storms)............

Seeing that last pic, it showed that the profile left in the shade of the "toid" rail was a bit different than on regular "Eye-En-Dee" tracks: the Rockaway sections for years used "El Eye Double-Are" "toid" rail. |

You noticed that, as well? (another WELL-TRAINED eye!)
The IND's "new" Rockaway line was indeed but "reclaiming" a former "El-Ey-Double-Are" route, one that also utilized "toid trail" and high-level platforms.
Echoes, in a sense, of the City taking over the old "Westchester's" ROW up in "da Bronx", and re-adapting it for rapid transit use (QUITE a "come down", if you will, from the NYW&B's big, plush MUs, replaced with elderly wooden El cars!)
Interesting, also, that, here was yet ANOTHER "connection" to the "Eye-En-Dee"; recall, originally, the Dyre Avenue line was operated as part of the IND, with IND crews running the trains!

BTW:
Was VERY surprised Nhis morning, to say the least, of hearing of NO subway/SIR/LIRR/MN issues whatsoever; in fact, the only problems I heard about was that NJT's North Jersey Coast line was suspended between Long Branch and Bay Head (actually, this came of little surprise, given what played out during past storms)
I DID see on Eyewitness News last evening, of workman blocking off subway ventilation grillings, to prevent stations being inundated (this procedure was carried out at several stations in Manhattan and Brooklyn).............

| And I don't know if this is true or not, as I saw an image on YouTube of it (and they're known now to use "AI" for a lot of their images); but apparently, R-211's are beginning to run on the "Frankie." |

One reason for my "eagle eye" on this was, there is an Instagram page called "SUBWAYS_IO" run by an "Em-Tee-Yay" staffer that also does time at the Transit "Mew-zeem" and has absolute interest, as I've had all my life, of the technical "woikings" of the system. He has pics of the major "toid" rails the system has used over the last 50 years - 150 lb. NMC (BMT/IND rail), 150 lb. IRT rail, 150 lb. "umbrella" rail (used in one form or another for decades on the Flushing line) - and the 150 lb. "El-Eye-Double-Are" rail as on the Rockaway line. (No "woid" yet on the 75 lb. "toid" rail used on original "Eye-Are-Tee" sections.) |

Quick question.......
Obviously, the sleek, new R-211 "Staten Island Rattlers" are using the same "toid rail" used by the now-retired, iconic "Fordy-Fours"; how old would you figure most of the SIRT "toid rail" is today? (I would assume that those used by the old "ME-1s" has since been replaced?)
Was also thinking of, back in the later 1960s, when the SIRT was eliminating the last of the grade crossings, with new trackage being installed.
This new "tod rail" would have been the same as what was already in use...............

I've seen some sections replace the old 150 lb. NMC "toid rail" with the 84C "composite" rails. I'd say about half of the sections are old, at least dating to when the "Fordy-Fours" were "foist" introduced if not earlier. |

Just did a quick "soich", and found that the "Are-Two-11s" are indeed undergoing clearance testing on the "Frankie"............
