Was thinking of you a few moments ago..........
I just saw a news report (ABC-7) on a group of Jewish New Yorkers that were heading (by bus) to Washington for a pro-Israeli march.
The bus that was seen in the report was an ACADEMY (a VAN HOOL)
The only time Your's Truly sees a VAN HOOL in my area is one working on a VERY infrequent charter.
Allow me to say that I've always liked VAN HOOL coaches.........

Van Hools are all we have in our West Palm Beach charter fleet. Mostly 45 footers, and a few 35 footers. We sent our last MCI's to Miami last year.
We also have a fleet of 30 and 35 foot ENC's (Eldorado National California) transit buses in our contract fleet in WPB. We use those to provide transit services for places like Century Village...a large retirement community. |

This might have been before your time with ACADEMY (this was awhile back), but do you recall the PREVOST Model H3-40?
ACADEMY began purchasing these buses back in 1994 (this was the company's first PREVOST purchase, according to William A Luke's "PREVOST BUSES")
ACADEMY also purchased 45 H3-41s, as well as several H3-45s.
I recall the first I saw, early on, near the Hoboken yards; I thought it looked most impressive.........the very first time Mom saw one, she said it reminded her of an "English lorry"!
As you and I both know, the very first PREVOST coaches in the United States was the small group of "CHAMPIONS", purchased by SOMERSET, way back in 1968.
I well recall seeing these in the vicinity of the "Port-of-Authority", into the 1980's..............

Thought of you again this morning:
An ABC news report showed a montage of "stock footage" of traffic at the tunnels and bridges, during a report on the ongoing congestion pricing debacle.
One "speeded up" sequence showed traffic passing through the Lincoln Tunnel; the rear view of an ACADEMY "big boy" was clearly in sight; I cannot say for sure, but it looked like a VAN HOOL from the rear.
Again, I'm just making a guess, here, as to make............

When I was with Adirondack, in 1994, as part of our campaign to acquire rights into Montreal from NY, we purchased new Quebec built, Prevost H3-41's. We also bought some used H3-40's. A year later, we bought new H3-45's, and later still, XL-2's. |

Ahhh, so you DID have some "contact" with these coaches!
As the now-defunct SOMERSET was only the only New Jersey company to purchase the type in 1968 (and, indeed, was also the ONLY domestic company to purchase them), I often wonder if NJT ever, at least, contemplated purchasing PREVOSTS in later years.
Of course, to this day, the big MCIs ( I think they are now using third-generation coaches nowadays) are indeed the dominant players in the NJT commuter fleet (I call them "Jersey Hounds")............
