Whatever's the latest date in 1970 where you see those "Kramdens" with the protruding front roll signs crisscrossing Fifth "Aven-yew," would be at what point they were retired. All within the 2600's. |

In a way, it's a good thing that the "stoa" Old Looks were retired when they were, given that "da Bronx" was then hitting the skids big time.....I shudder to think of them running up there, several years later....it would NOT be pretty.........

Question......
Did the MTA ever consider purchasing "Dangerfields" to replace the El trains upin "da Bronx", or splitting the order with "Gee-em"?
Just wondering.............

The finishing of the "Gee-Em" order for the 5309A's dovetailed with the closure of the "El" and their replacement the Bx55. Notice that the last 60 in that order (4860-4919) were all assigned to Kingsbridge where the Bx55 was stationed. The first "Dangerfield" order afterwards, all the buses for " 'stoa" were clustered at Hudson depot. |

W.B.:
Thanks for the info.
Recall, now, the nearly 900 "Dangerfields" purchased by the NJDOT in the later 70s; I've often wondered, had this order been placed several years earlier, would said order have gone to "Gee-Em"?
Interesting to think about..........

Further:
"Pee-es", not surprisingly, obviously had NO interest in purchasing "Dangerfield", the total opposite of the "See-Tee-Yay".
Had "Pee-es" rostered "Dangerfields", I can easly see them painted in the green that adorned the (transit) Fishbowl fleet, back in those days............
