Thought.........
Imagine if the North Shore line was still connected to the Totteniville line, and through SIRT trains coild offer a one-seat ride from Tottenille to Arlington, bypassing St. George.
And now, with s omuch redevelipment planed for the North Shore's waterfront area, there is bo rapos transit ((or even light rail) option.i
No one in 1953 was thinking of that far into the future..........

W.B.:
And, in later years, the "Bee & Oh" came to regret selling their then-surplus "ME-1s" to the "Tee-Yay" back in 1953.
Weird that that the SIRT lost so much of its rolling stock to fires, starting in the late 1920s, and into the 1960s............

On thus day in 1905...........
Operation of the Staten Island Ferry is transferred from the Staten Island Railway (SIRT) tothe City of New York.
The old sidewheel boats were replced by the new "FIVE BOROUGHS" class, then the largest and most powerful ferries on the East Coast.
The last of these handsome vessels were retired prior to 1950.............

Recall, also, that,in 1905, it would be nine more years before the City added asixth boat to the fleet, the "MAYOR GAYOR"(1914)
And, in 1905, the original INTERBOROUGH was but a year old.
Also, it would be 20 years before the SIRT ran its fitst "ME-1s"................

......and,also in 1905, it would be two more years before the last horse-drawn omnibuses swayed along swanky Fifth "Aven-oo", and were replaced by a fleet of modern double-decker motor buses.............

And, in 1905, thewooden DL&W terminal at Hoboken was destroyed by a massive fire, that also destroyed one of the ferryboats.
The destroyed terminal was replaced by the present historic terminal. which opened in 1907.................

In 1905, cable trains were still crossing the Brooklyn Bridge, along with the newly-electrified BRT El trains...........
