W.B.:

Talking about transit collectibles being so overpriced these days.....imagine the astronomical price tag on a side batwing sign from a PSNJ Fishbowl?? Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

That is, if one such sign still even exists......... Idea

Let's see . . . the last non-A/C's (of both) were retired around 1984. That would mean that when the last of the "Dangerfields" were put to pasture in 1993, and the remaining Fishbowls in 1995, all such buses on the roads at their respective times were A/C.

W.B.:

Thanks for this info; this is just what I was curious about.

Though I know all PSNJ "suboibans" had a /c, I wonder how many of the transits had a/c; the only ones I know for certain that had a/c were the "Z=300S", which I commuted on daily for years ..........

Further............

Theex-PSNJ "Z-300s" acked an a/c unit over the rear windows ;inside, a long duct ran the length of the bus, installed on one side where the ad cards would normally be displayed.

These a/c units could have been used on a PFE reefer!!!!!!!!

Travel time comparisons..............

After the El closed down in 1973,I wonder if anyone compared the length of time it took for the replacement "stoa" buses to negotiate the rouite of the former elevated line.

Something is telling me that the trains were faster (and, indeed, could handle more passengers per rip)............

... .just thinking of those misguided NIMBYs who thought that demolishing the El (as well as the BMT's Jamaica El) was going toiimprove the "quality of life" in the area.

Yeah, right.

At least, the BMT el was replaced by a new subway line; no such luck for the venerable "Toid Aven-uh"El up in "da Bronx".........Sad

...........and, surely, the "crush load" capacity for an IRT car was still far greater than that of any replacement bus.

Too, buses could not berun in SETS, as were the trains they replaced.........

W.B.:

GOOD point!

You's Truly rode this jam-packed IRT "SMEEs" for many years, and, I can tell you, you could cram a LOT of folks into those cars! Shocked Wink

2:

Jow many buses had "bowling allet" seating?

At the time of this photo, was the ex-TARS car house (now a "stoa" garage) a "hpme base" for only Fishbowls, or were "Dangerfields" also stabled here?

I.I.N.M., Kingsbridge had the last 64 (4664-4727) of the 1970 A/C "Dangerfields" allotted to " 'stoa" (West Farms had the first 64, 4600-4663). Seemed at the time the pic was taken, only the Fishbowls were in evidence.

I was also thinking that the former TARS carhoisew as then a Fishbowl-only gaxility, as, in the photo, only "Gee-Ems" are to be seen...........

Again, what "Flxies" they had, must've crisscrossed "da Bronx" and other areas of upper Manhattan at the time . . .
