This morning.............

LIRR service between Atlantic Avenue and Jamaica was suspended, due to "fire department activity".

Service is now back with delays.

Meanwhile, NJT's NEC/Midtown Direct service is experiencing one-hour delays, due to an earlier "Amtrak issue"on one of the Hudson River tunnels.

The insanity neer ends............... Sad

Let's face it...............

The ex-PRR tunnels under the Hudson have not been decently maintained since the day of the ill-fated P-C merger in 1968........... Sad

Thi will be interesting...........

For the next month, NJT service into NYP will be cut in half; ditto AMTRAK and ACELA service, due to the final work on the connections to the new bridge replacing the old "PORTAL" span.

"MIDTOWN DIRECT" trains will be re-routed into Hoboken.

This WILL be QUITE interesting, to say the least............... Shocked Rolling Eyes

W.B.:

As far back as 1971, there were plans to bring E-L electric trains into NYP.

In an article in TRAINS (1971) there were plans on the boards to connec tthe Morris & Esex to the NEC (then P-C) in the Meadows.

NewMUs would have been odered, to be compatible with the NEC's vol;tage.

Sadly, this plan aslo called for the demolition of the historic Hoboken terminal (the ferries to Barclay St.were then gone three years) and bui8lding a new "transfer station"on the site, to allow the diesel lines to connect with "the tubes".

Thnkfully ,the demolotion of the massive 1907 terminal never came to passl however the "Midtown Direct" connection DID eventually become a realty, as we know.....
