The NYW&B Railway begins running between Columbus Avene, Mount Vernon, and White Plains.......

On this day in 1919............

Through BRT rapid transit service from Manhattan to the Canarsie Pier ended; the rapid transit trains were ereplced bt El cars (equipped with trolley poles) which ran between the new terminal a tRockaway Parkway (the terminal for today's "L" train) and the Pier.

In 1920, the El car shuttlewas replaced by B&QT streetcars.

This service continued until 1951, when the streetcars were replaced by BoT buses.......

Further:

The long-lived B&QT double-ended Peter Witts (8000s) were the last non-PCC streetcars to run in Brooklyn; they were also the las ttwo-man cars in use.

The last several years that they were in service, they operated only during the rush hours;they were retired about 1954.

Motormen found these big car very rugged and reliable.............

This was one of the busiest locations on the B&QT network; note the inyerlocking tower.

Only two deck roof cars are to be seen, overshadowd by a number of 8000-series Peter Witts.

After1947, trolley buses and mptor buses also served this busy station....

This c. late 1940s photo shows the busy forecourt of an unidentified B&QT cargouse (MIGHT have been De Kalb)

A number of the larger carhouses had off-street loops adjavrnt, which served as starting/terminal points for lines radiating out of a given location.

Coney Island (Stillwell Avenue) was another busy transfer/terminal point, especially during the summer months.

The pedestrian walkway overhead connected the B&QT's elevated elevated Nortons Point terminal to the spawling BMT subway/el station complex

Obly double-ended cars could be used on the Nortons Point line, as thet erminal was stub-ended.............
