METRO-NORTH once operated the "SPV"in midday shuttle service, connecting with NJT main line trains from Hoboken; the cars were notorious for a host of mechanical issues

Unlike the tried-and-true RDCs, these units were not at all popular with neither crews or commuters.

Design-wise,they were good-looking cars, recalling the original "METROLINERS"; however, here, beauty was indeed only skin-deep........

Cyberider:

The GE turbines were the cars most like the M-1 MUs; these units featured escalator-type steps in the vestibules!

The fas-turbine cars roared like jet airliners, and could not be used on late-night runs, as, the noise was so loud, every light in every house would goon, along the tracks, waking up entire neighborhoods!

Fuel consumption was beyond exorbinant.

The GE cars were later converted into "M-1" MUsl; the Garrettt cars were all scrapped, as they were too expensive to convert into electrics......
