Indeed, "Noo Yawk" sports, and the coverage of the same, has changed drastically over the past several decades.

Once-familiar sports anchors have since come and gone, and were replaced over the years,the and were face of "Noo Yawk" sports has changed dramatically in the years since (recall Mr. Rock Rote?)

Eyewitness News' Scott Clark was a fixture for years; recall his "OUT OF THIS WORLD" segment on Fridays?

Back in the 80s, I was always telling myself that I was going to attend at least ONE Mets game at Shea Stadium, but, I guess I was too busy railfanning, and hanging out at the NYCTM! :ro

I STILL recall the legendary PHil Rizzuto doing t "The Money Store" commercials, back in the day; and, of course, the last TRUE "Boulevardier", a certain Mr. Jeter, in his heyday, was enshrined in TV commercials, magazine ads.....you name it......seemed "The Cap'm" was EVERYWHERE, back then!

Speaking of the bygone days, regarding "Noo Yawk" sports, who can forget the sound of the hallowed organ at Shea Stadium, even if you only heard it for a moment or two during a "recap" pn the "nooze"?

On Eyewitness News, it seems we seldom see veteran fformer) weekend sportscaster Anthony Johnson th4se days; I always liked his style and overall jovial personality.

Now, Sam Ryan has the weekend spot, and fills in for Ryan more often than not.

That's when I either watch Otis Livingston on 2, or John Chandler (weekends) on 5

Then again, I only watch when the Mets WIN, so, needless to say, outside of "Kan-ikker-bokeer" coverage, I haven't been watching sports reports all that much, as of late........

Interesting "trivia" on Mr. Johnson; did not know ths!!

He was also the "main" New Jersey reporter forr years, but, these days, you see him on assignment every once in awhile, with Toni Yates now getting most of the stories from"Joisey".

He WAS, however (at the risk of being mobbed by overly-rambunctious Spurs fans) in San Antonio, when the "Kann-ikker-bokkers" won.

In fact, the report was cut short, as the "fans" were really getting out of hand....

After over a century, the "BIG 'A'" racetrack will be closing its gates forever, tomorrow (Sunday)

In the earlu 80s, I still remember the old IND change booth (42nd) being used for the extra-fare "Aqueduct Specials", which departed from the now-demolished lower level at 42nd Street.

Yet another colorful era in "Noo Yawk" has bow ended.......

Indeed, horse racing had a lot more coverage in the "Noo Yawk" area, back in the day.

A 1010 news report stated that "OTB" (now gone itself) was the beginning of the end for horse racing in the area.

One of my buds from work lived 10 minutes from Monmouth Park via NJT's North Jersey Coast Line, and we "rode the rails" to the track too many times to count, back in the 1990s; I've always been a big horse racing enthusiast.

I seldom bet; I went there simply for the "thrill"!

For many years, the park jad a four-track stub "terminal" (the PRR had two tracks and the CNJ had the other two); 14-car trains were not at all uncommon.

A wye was used to turn the trains, in the years before push-pulls; prior to Aldene in 1967, the CNJ operated racetrack specials from both Jersey City and Broad Street, Newark.

Through the50s, boat service from Exchange Place, the Battery, and Brooklyn carried racing fans to Atlantic Higlands, where bus connections were made.

Over the years, fewere came by train; at the end, there was only obe track that ran to the grandstand; that was later pruned back to almost nothing

The last vestige of the old days. the "Pony Express" made irs last run long ago,

Recall, the LIRR's sizeable terminal at Belmont, which has been closed for several years for renovation.

Ain't the same................
