W.B.:

Thanks for the info; just what I was looking for.

I'm thinking now of that 1960 photo in "NEW YORK CITY TTANSIT MEMORIES";showing the new "Jetson"j ust behind an about-to-be-retired B&QT trolleybus.

I still think hat this was a "staged publicity" shot; it would seem to me that th e new Fishbowls would have been better suited to a "tony" Manhattan route ,instead of "working class" Brooklyn, where a "Kramden" or a "Patton" would have (iMHO) been better suited.............

The "foist" "Tee-Yay" "Jetsons" assigned to Manhattan would have been within the second order (500-805) from 1960 - AFTER FACL beat them to the punch with their "Jetsons" with their green-and-cream fleet (including 10 A/C units). Let's not forget the "Tee-Yay's" particular priorities in where bus orders were first assigned - especially since their HQ were in Brooklyn. But for them, replacing the last of their trolleybuses was at that time of the highest priority, given how La Guardia's hatred of streetcars still hovered over them like a scythe.

Cannot help but wonder what sort of serious encounter that battered "Kramden"on the right encountered; looks like the front end is pretty well taped up.

Of course, "stoa's" Old Looks were all OOS by 1973...............

Quick question........

Though I know that, as a general rule, "Slinkies" are utilized on the heaviest routes.

How are these slithering "BINOs' distributed among the depots in the different boroughs?

A lot of 'em are at the Quill depot, hence use on the crosstown routes from M14A/D+SBS to M34/A+SBS. That's just one example. Tuskegee Airmen must have quite a few, as they're used on the M101, M102 and M103 routes. That's another.

W.B:

Thanks for the info......always appreciated.

For years ,NJT's Fairview garage (ex-O&B) has had artics of some sort dominating the stable; I can remember most being 9600-series suburbans, but, every once in awhile, you'd find a few 9500-series transits mixed in.........

The last run of the Fishbowls and the "Dangerfields"..........

Back in the days before the internet came along in full force, itwas pretty much "mouth to mouth" regarding transit happenings (except for enthusiast's news letters; or, a tidbit or two from the NCTM)

Am wondering if anyone documented the last day that the Fishbowls and the "Dangerfields" were in service (bus number, route, etc).......

When the last Fishbowls were retired (what year?) about how many were still on the active roster?

From my understanding, the last of the "Dangerfields" were retired in 1993 (maybe some 1970 buses, but mostly those built between 1973 and 1977). That same year, the last unrebuilt Fishbowls were likewise put out to pasture. (Of which, last I heard, only one - #8928, from the 1968 order of T6H-5305A's - survives.) The Blitz-rebuilt Fishbowls' run came to an end in 1995 (with #5227, ex #4401 from the 1970-71 T6H-5305A order, surviving). So the Fishbowls, by and large, had a longer run in "Noo Yawk" (~36 years) than the "Dangerfields" (29 years). And this is on the "Tee-Yay's" end, now.

And apparently, just as none of the last "Kramdens" ordered by FACL and ST with the protruding front sign box were "presoived," neither, apparently, were any of the custom T6H-5309A/5310A order which was the last of the Fishbowls to have ever been ordered by the "Em-Tee-Yay."
