WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!
Talk about the MASTERPIECE that even the great Da Vinci could not paint!!!!!!
Never saw this photo before; though, during the 1960's, Mom and I were frequent visitors to the old CNJ terminal in Jersey City (pre-Aldene) and I can still clearly remember an elderly CNJ conductor pointing out to us the remains of the B&O bus turntable; sadly, I missed the B&O bus/ferry operation by only several years.
The "sedan doors" on the buses gave them an added touch of "class", MOST appropriate for the elegant B&O rail services of the day........

Agreed!
That's an awesome find!
When I get back to NYC, I'll try to remember to dig up my old Reading Trailways cap badge, and add it to this thread...
It is a National Trailways shield, with Reading Trailways in the banner, and a smaller Reading Lines diamond shape and badge number stamped in the bottom part...
It is silver, with black, red, yellow, and white enamel...very colorful...

BTW:
From what I have read, Jim Lehrer has what is supposed to be the largest collection of bus memorabilia in the States; his collection includes hundreds of cap badges, bus station signs....you name it!
Lucky guy.........

Updating a forgotten topic, here...........
Yesterday, I received my ("Images Of Rail") book, "CENTRAL RAILROAD OF NEW JERSEY TERMINAL"(Anthony Puzzila), which I was eagerly waiting on.
In this interesting little book, there are several rare photos of the B&O's bus-train connection coaches at Jersey City, none of which I had seen before.
There are two late-1920s/early-1930s) photos of front engined coaches, including one showing a line of buses under the trainsheds, awaiting the next inbound B&O train.
There are also several photos taken in later years, showing the postwar WHITES, which were in use when the B&O abandoned all service to New York (Jersey City) in 1958.
According to the text, three generations of train-connection buses served this unique and fascinating operation..............

Of related interest.........
In the book "OVER THE ROAD" (Meier/Hoschek) there is a circa-1930 photo showing buses entering and leaving the Dixie Hotel terminal in Manhattan.
One of the buses is a "Jersey Central" MACK.........

JACKPOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AWESOME photos!!!!!!!!
Pre-Adene, I well recall those old, 1900s-era CNJ steam ferries (the last survivor, foolishly scuttled long ago,, was the "ELIZABETH".
BTW:
The driveway for the B&O buses at Jersey City. after 1958, was used as a parking area.
Again, GREAT PHOTOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great shots, thanks for posting!
I believe we may have discussed this previously, but someone refresh my memory...
Who actually operated those "B&O" buses? IIRC, their operation was a contract with a regular bus carrier, possibly Public Service?
Anyone recognize those uniforms in the last photo?
Or have a photo showing the "Legals" lettering on the buses?

The B&O train-connection buses were owned by the B&O, bit were consigned to Fifth Avenue Coach Company.
Hope this info helps..........

Fifth Avenue, eh? That's a surprise, for sure. A totally different type of business than their usual operation. I wonder if their driver's came off their regular seniority roster, or were an entirely separate operation. And where were those buses maintained? In one of Fifth Avenue's garages?

Glad I was able to ve of some help!
As the B&O, until 1958, had several trains which served the CNJ's Jersey City terminal, it would be interesting to see just how many train-connections were made with the buses at Jersey City, on a given day.
I know that B&O buses had priority over all other vehicles, when the time came to load the ferryboats at Jersey City and at Liberty Street.
I've seen photos and movie footage of CNJ boats carrying full loads of B&O buses; no other vehicles aboard.
Too bad I missed out on all this fascinating bus/train/ferry activity by only several years!

On this day in 1958........
The B&O abandoned all passenger service to New York (via the CNJ's Jersey City terminal)
This also ended the need for the B&O's bus connections at Jersey City........

The B&O's "Royal Blue Route" from Washington to New York, left B&O Rails in Philadelphia, then used Reading Company tracks from there to Bound Brook, NJ, thence CNJ on into the Jersey City ferry terminal.
Since B&O provided those connecting buses from there to various points in The City, I wonder if the Reading Company ever did similar for their trains from Philadelphia, which also used the Jersey Central rails from Bound Brook on?

traildriver:
The only train-bus connection at the CNJ's Jersey City terminal that I've heard of was the B&O's.
I would guess that RDG passengers simply detrained at Jersey City and boarded a CNJ ferry for New York.
Until about 1963, the RDG operated passenger service between Harrisburg and Jersey City; these trains were short in length, usially hust a Trainmaster, an RPO, and a coach or two (usually, there was at least one CNJ car in the consist)..................
