Also:

In the aforementioned book, there are rare photos of Baltimore's articulated cars; also, interesting car house/yard/garage photos.......

Sounds interesting but what's going to happen to all of our treasured books when we kick the bucket?

That's something I will deal with at a later date (why dwell on what will be, sometime in the (hopefully distant!) future?

Right now. I count my blessings that I have my eyesight, and can STILL read a book Very Happy

Realistically, you COULD look into donating your books,at some time in the future, to a rail.traction/museum.

In my case, I akso think of several trolley/rail museums, the National Bus Museum, etc.........

"MANHATTAN'S LOST STREETCARS" (Stephen Meyers)....

Another OUTSTANDING book in the "IMAGES OF RAIL" series; this book is one of these BEST in the series, without a doubt! Very Happy

Several companies are well-documented here; TARS, NY Railways, STEINWAY, and a number of others; there are even photos of streetcar/El action at Park Row and Sands Street! Shocked

Horse cars, cable cars, electric trolleys, experimental cars, battery cars, "Broadway Battleships", work cars.......you want it,you've got it here! Very Happy

Just received my copy today.......WOW!!!!!!!!!!! Shocked Very Happy

Cyberider:

Was really intrigued by all the photos of NY RAILWAYS battery cars; also, the early TARS cars that originally had been cable cars! (talk about recycling!) Wink

The photo showing a BMT El train pulling out of Park Row was a "C" unit; these were open-platform cars that the BMT rebuilt into cars with enclosed ends, enclosed passageways between cars, and air-operated doors, in the early 1920s.

They had the overall look of articulated cars, byt were not; the last of these interesting-looking trains ran on the old Fulton El in 1956.....

Once upon a time, TARS once operated some quite distinctive (and charming!) single-truck cars..... Wink

Wonder how many folks, over the years, once rode this charming little car to and from work, and never realizing that it had started life as a CABLE car......

Once so much associated with TARS, none of these distinctive old cars survives today.Sad

TARS wasted no time in sending these handsome cars to the scrap pile, once the routes they served were converted to buses...... Crying or Very sad

Sadly, the trolley preservation movement, at that time, was in its infancy.......

Interesting........

Though, like TARS, PSNJ did build SOME cars in their shops, they, unlike TARS, never built (or operated) any experimental rolling stock.

Nor did PS ever use transfer tables; also, unlike TARS, there were no multi-level car houses on any of the divisions.......

Two-level car houses..........

In New Haven, the CCo.'s James Street car house had two levels; the B&QT's 9th Avenue (Brooklyn) depot, the last in use, also had two levels.........
