FACCo/CMCCo............
Interesting how, that while both companies purchased postwar "Pattons", neither purchased any WHITES.
On the other hand, CSL rostered quite a large number iof them, which lasted wellinto the 1960s.
Too, while CSL purchased postwar ACF-BRILLs ("C-36"), neither CMCCo or FACCO had any interest in these buses; like the WHITES, they also lasted through the mid-1960s in the CTA fleet.
And, at least, neither of these companies made the mistake of purchasing postwar "Oddballs" (TWINS).............

Didn't FACCo purchase a very small number of Whites, one of two in the 1930's (the other going to NYCO), and a few for use on FACCo's Queens lines in the early '50's before "Gee-Em" started selling 40' long buses with 96" width, beginning with the TDH-5104?
But yeah, neither they nor NYCO showed the slightest interest in Twin's "Oddballs." |

Yes, I had forgotten that group of five 1150-D-7s that FACCo purchased in 1953, for service on the "15" line to Queens.
They were sold to Memphis in 1960...........

Interesting in itself that FACCo even purchased those "oddball" WHITES n the early 1950s, instead of purchasing a group of "Kramdens" or "Pattons"....guess the price was too good to pass up.
Regardless, WHITES were "soitanly" normally NOT buses you would have associated with FACCo.............

Thought.........
Instead of those 1953 WHITE 1150s, FACCo could have purchased either TDH-5104s, or additional MACK "C-50-DTs"..............

Nor, for that matter, were the Mack "Pattons" . . . which also did "soivice" on the #15 - Jackson Heights line. |

W.B.:
STILL like to imagine FACL (or "Soiface") purchasing "New Look" MACKS!
Look at the "See-Tee-Yay"; so enamored were they with the postwar "Oddballs", that the ONLY Old Looks in the fleet came from CSL and CMCCo, never purchasing any new models of their own.
In fact, the ONLY new "Gee-Ems" purchased by the CTA in 1961 were a group of Fishbowls (along with a like number of "Dangerfields").......

In 1938 all three private companies purchased a single White Model 788.
Fifth Avenue Coach number 1086 serial 210799
New York City Omnibus number 499 serial number 210800
Surface Transportation number 1200 serial number 213307
The NYCO White was sold to Triboro Coach in 1951 and renumbered 1030.
The Surface was a diesel electric and was renumbered to 5200 in 1946.
Surface bought 20 Twin Coach model 45-S in 1950 for Westchester Street Transportation.
Surface also operated a White model 1144 demo.
And let us not forget the single Flxible-Twin Coach model FT-35-D a demo number 6000 acquired by Surface in 1954 but transferred to Westchester in 1956.
Prior to World War II Surface had 15 White model 684in the Bronx and transferred to Westchester in 1943.
And as mentioned earlier FACCo had five White model 1150 in 1953. They were purchased after the TDH-5104 (1952) and two years after the Mack C-50.. |

MaBSTOA15:
As always, I greatly appreciate your always-detailed historical info....thank you!
In Hudson County (where I grew up back in the 1960s), WHITES werestill quite commonplace.
NHBL (transit) and "INTER-CITY"(suburban) both operated WHITES well into the 1960s, both 798s and what I believe were 1150s.
Interestingly, "ORANGE & BLACK"did not roster any postwar WHITES (AFAIK)
The handful of 798s DE CAMP rostered in the later 1950s, originally operated for "ATLANTIC TRANSPORTATION" ("GARDEN STATE LINES") which DE CA<P took over around 1956.
"RED & TAN" also once operated 798 suburban models............

FACCo "Queen Mary"in Philly...........
Just received my copy of "SOUTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA TROLLEYS", in the "Images of Rail" series)
This is an EXCELLENT little book!
In addition to the trolleys, there are a number of bus and trolleybus photos; one of particular interest to "Noo Yawk" buffs is the photo of ex-FACCo "Queen Mary" #2025.
According to the caption, the bus was purchased from FACCo in 1940, and operated on Route "C" during WW2...........

Quite awhile back (unless I am mistaken) I had read that this 1924 YELLOW, used in 1967's "THE ST.VALENTINE'S DAY MASSACRE",playing the part of a CMCCo. bus, was originally a FACCo "Blunderbus".
I also remember, some while back, seeing a photo of a retired "Blunderbus" on the "Gee-Doublya-Bee" heading West, on its way to becoming a "movie bus", back in the 1940s.
Wondering if the bus seen in "MASSACRE" was indeed ex-FACCo ; also, wondering about FACCo selling retired double-deckers, for use elsewhere.......

Further:
Odd that the "Pee-Tee-See" purchased only ONE "Queen Mary" from FACCo; then again, you would think that a bus THAT new would not be being sold off, especially while still only a few years old..........
