"Joisey Suboibans"...........

Through a good chunk of the 1960s, in addition to "Gee-Em" (both Old Look and Fishbowls) several now long-defunct suburban companies also operated MACKS, WHITES, and ACF-BRILL C-44s.

As the decade progressed, the non-"Gee-Em" buses began to dusappear, as they were replaced by new Fishbowls.

By 1970, the NJ-based companies were operating only "Gee-Em"-built buses; the era of diverse, colorful, non-"Gee-Em" had ended.

PSNJ, of course, outside if a few non-"Gee-Em" demos, had always been a "Gee-Em" stronghold:

The "Joisey" companies that also rostered non-"Gee-Em" buses during the 1960s (based on my menories)included:

ORANGE & BLACK (MACK)

INTER-CITY (WHITE and ACF-BRILL)

LAKELAND (MACK)

DE CAMP (ACF-BRILL)

SOMERSET (" ")

Today, of course, it has now been several decades since even FISHBOWL "suboibans" have been spotted in these parts.

By 1970, the only NJ "suboiban" company to roster non-"Gee-EM" buses was "SOMERSET", with their handful of PREVOST "Champions".

It's all lookalike "BINOS" nowadays; it's like "Gee-Em" had never existed......... Sad

Not just "Gee-Em"; also White, Mack, Prevost, ACF-Brill, Twin Coach, and Flxible. Like they, too, had become dust in the wind (to quote an old Kansas song).

W.B.:

Just as was the case in "Shik-aga", the time frame of 1965/66-1968 here in "Joisey" pretty much marked the end of all non-"Gee-Em" buses (transit and subrban)

I can still remember the NHBL's oldest square window Old Looks disappearing about late 1966/early 1967; the WHITES went not long afterwards, followed by the formidable "Pattons".

When the very last NHBL Old Looks were retired in 1986, only single-door models were in use; those with rear doors had already been gone close to a decade, by that time...

Looks like one of the buses built for the 1969-70 sets delivered to the TA and MaBSTOA. Can't make out the number in front on the first image. But a welcome sight, in any event.

Some "BINO's" today have straps, only they're canvas or cloth.
