Somewhat on topic: A friend's granddaughter will go to London in January for a junior semester abroad. She will live in a dorm some short distance by Underground from the center-city classroom. As I have meager knowledge of current London, I said, Buy an Oyster card and be sure to tap out at the end of each trip, either by bus or tube. Would you criticize my advice? I presume that problems will also disappear with friendships established and advice shared.

Joe:

No, I would not criticize your advice; I must admit however, that, even though I have been researching London's public transport past for many years, I am totally unfamiliar with today's fare structure/method of payment, etc, in London.

London's fare structure has always been quite complex, indeed, and a totally foreign concept, compared to New York's...............
