Cyberider:

My VERY FIRST TRAIN ride was way back in 1960, just before the DL&W merger with the ERIE, and it was aboard one of these ancient, iconic "Edison Wickerliners"!

Mom and I rode these classic electrics too many times to count, throughout my childhood years (the Hoboken Terminal was only about 15 minutes away from us, via PSNJ's #17!)

I also commuted daily on these interurban-ish electrics in my senior year of high school ('74-'75), and railfanned them for years.

While I didn't go on the "official" last run, Mom and I rode on one during a "FAREWELL TO THE LACKAWANNA ELECTRICS", back in August of 1984! (we boarded at Madison)

So many wonderful old memories for both Mom and myself! Wink

In my collection , I have a DL&W MU controller handle, indeed, a CROWN JEWEL!) Very Happy

Hard to believe the last runs of these historic trains were over FORTY YEARS AGO, now.....sure was fun while it lasted! Very Happy

NYO,

You and your Mom sure got around! Hard to believe these cars lasted until 1984. They looked like an anachronism, even then. I'm envious!

Cyberider:

Mom's favorite railroad was the DL&W, anyway; back in the 1920s, her family would board a Friday night "midnight excursion" at Hoboken, to visit her grandparents and other relatives just outside of Wilkes-Barre!

The old "Wickerliners", to this very day, are STILL an integral chapter from my childhood!

How vividly the memories of those long-ago days still shine! Very Happy
