Ron White would have been RIGHT on the mark, here!
Missed the whole report, but, I just "hoid" this snippet on 1010 WINS a few hours ago.......
".....though Yankee fans are pretty glum this morning, you have to remember that NOT EVERYONE likes the Yankees......"
Dang straight, pal!
"NYO"
(IT is STILL impossible for Your's Truly to associate today's Yankees with the bygone team that gave baseball some of its BIGGEST "Iron Men", many decades ago. Today's "squeakers" are but pathetic 'PINOs", Players In Name Only........ |

Reminds me of a 1946 Warner Bros. cartoon (Kitty Kornered) where Sylvester was trying to whip other alley cats into shape to fight Porky Pig, and after asking "Are we men, or are we mice?," one little cat said, "I like cheese . . . " before he was swatted away by Sylvester.
That little cat's statement seems to be "doze squeakers' " motto . . . no doubt those "Iron Men" of old are twirling in their graves many times over.
You know they're bad if one early "PINO," "Ay-Rod," rips their performance. (Never mind the last "Iron Man" in the team's history, "The Cap'n," Derek Jeter, who likewise panned his old club over their recent play.) |

Man, do I REMEMBER that classic WB cartoon; recall the cats all making themselves up as "Martians", and then all kissing Porky goodnight:
"Good night, butterball!"
So far as baseball goes, even the creaky ol' "Tee-Toatlers" (from "Baseball Bugs") EASILY could have put away "doze squeakers"!
TOTALLY agree; "The Cap'n" was indeed the LAST of the great Yankees "Iron Men"; today's "PINOs" are but but insipid cartoon characters (I can recall when CARTOONS were SUPPOSED to be FUNNY!)
Well, thank the heavens we are FINALLY done with "doze squeakers" until next spring.......(!!)

Ryan Field (Eyewitness News at 6)
Ryan had up a banner reading:
"THE BOYS OF BUMMER"
Die-hard Yankee fan anchor Bill Ritter TWICE uttered a VERY somber, dirge-like "AlllRisssse", that was almost a whimper.
Ryan also brought up the fact that it has been 16 years since "doze squeakers" won a title...........

Right on the mark......
Sportcaster Ryan Field's (Eyewitness News) on-screen banner reading:
"THE BOYS OF BUMMER" really HIT the NAIL right on the HEAD, regarding "doze squeakers from da Bronx", last evening
FINALLY, we're DONE with "doze squeakers" and the ever-fawning, surly, obnocxious "AYF" brigade until 2026!
Meanwhile, I "hoid" that the "RAYN-jers" and the Giants both WON last night; however, the "EYE-Landers" lost..........

As did the Devils from across "da river."
The other "Noo Yawk" area sports scene will no doubt be as hectic and turbulent and topsy-turvy and whiplash-inducing as baseball had been. Especially once the regular season starts for the "Ka-nikker-bockers" and Nets. |

Regarding the "Kann-ikker-bockers", we just will have to wait and see if those animated "Globetrotters" will be on hand, cheerring them on to a successful season.
With "doze squeakers" done for the season, obviously "Uncle Hoiman" and "Katnip" no longer have to contend with CBTC issues on the "Eye-Are-Tee", nor the hassle of procuring AMTRAK and airline tickets, during road games........

"Uncle Hoiman" and "Katnip," however, will have to contend with the trek to Florida during spring training and "Grapefruit League" exhibition games . . . |

As spring training is still months into the future, let's just say that "Uncle Hoiman" and "Katnip" both are in a pretty good mood, seeing that they don'[t have any major cash outlays for rail/air fares for quite some time (let's face it: $3 bucks a pop just to take the "Eye-Are-Tee" up to "da Bronx" is an expense they both can do happily without, for several months!)

And given the rains a-comin' in the area, it's just as well "doze squeakers" were eliminated from the post-season equation. Imagine all the rain delays we'd've had to face. |

"Doze squeakers" EASILY could have been RAINED OUT for couple of games, at least!
Way, way back in the very early 1980s, I STILL recall a VERY rainy weeknight when "doze squeakers" got THOROUGHLY rained out up in "da Bronx", and WPIX instead ran the classic 1966 Raquel Welch/John Richardson caveman epic, 'ONE MILLION YEARS, BC" (with special effects from the legendary Ray Harryhausen!)

And I just saw this put up on YouTube, CBS 2 had a report on how "AYF's" were "disappointed" over their team's loss in the division series this last week. "Soives" 'em right, I'd say:
https://youtu.be/ta0nDyjYFI8
Stark contrast from their out-of-control behavior the night before when "doze squeakers" won their one game . . .
Talk about karma biting 'em in the you-know-where . . .
On that clip, I put this on:
"There's a term that describes this lot: 'AYF's,' or 'arrogant Yankee fans.' A sense of entitlement dating back to the 1920's and '30's.
"Also, people forget that prior to the Yankees moving to the first Yankee Stadium in 1923, it was THEY who were the underdogs - and the Giants the 'hallowed' team in New York, among the highest-paid in the league, with a few World Series wins under their belt (including the prior two years against the Yanks), playing out of the Polo Grounds. Took many Yank WS wins, especially by the end of the '30's, for the situation to reverse and the Giants consigned to 'also-ran' status, to the point where, when they won their last WS against Cleveland in 1954, they were struggling to sell tickets, so much had the area around the Polo Grounds deteriorated by then; of course, come 1958 the Giants up and moved to San Francisco.
"When the St. Louis Cardinals, with such players as Dizzy Dean and Pepper Martin, emerged in 1934 to win the World Series, their makeup was contrasted with what was seen as the 'haughty, overpaid Giants.' "
And can you believe the chutzpah of the one "AYF" who claimed with a straight face that "the odds were stacked against us"? |

EXCELLENT commentary, my friend!
(history repeating itself!)
Just thinking..........
Way, way, waaaaaayyy back in the dsay, IF a Yankee fan displayed both arrogance AND superiority, at the VERY LEAST, the team was STILL rostering TRUE "Iron Men"!
There's a HUGE difference, here, indeed....at least an "AFY" had a team they could truly BOAST about, and NOT continue to shameless fawn over a motley crew of overpaid, arrogant prima-donnas.....(!!)

BTW:
The "RAYN-gers" lost night; and, as for the Giants........well, you figure it out.........
