Though they did not operate in Rome, FIAT-built trolleybuses once ran in several Italian cities..........

Some of the postwar European cars looked decent. The Netherlands had some PCC's that looked like narrow American ones. Tatra made some cars that had many PCC features but looked different but still good. The modern LRV's suck no matter where they are.

Cyberider:

Italy (as well as most other countries in the world today) operate LRVs that range from the ugly to the downright frightening, truly looking like giant, mutated centipedes.

While I always like the classic "Euro" trams of the 1950s and 1960s, today's rolling stock simply leaves me cold......a TOTAL turn-off......... Razz

Here are several photos of Dutch PCCs; with their standee windows, they'd not be at all out of place here in the States, with the exception of the pans and door panels; handsome, classic cars for sure..........

Here are several views of the classic "Peter Witts" that were once commonplace in Milan; today, giant, mutated centipedes are the norm. Sad

These cars were indeed classics and LOOKED like what they were.....STREETCARS! Wink

Those Dutch PCC's are real beauties. Don't know what the '56 Chevy was doing there but the German Opels from that era had similar styling in a smaller sized car.

The Italian "Peter Witts" are nice and I think some German cities had something similar. Now, the "global look" has taken over everywhere, it seems.

For what I think of as a "New Look" PCC, the Tatra T3's weren't bad and were used in a lot of Eastern European countries.

Cyberider:

Back in the 60s, every Christmas, Mom and I would go into New York (only 15 minutes by bus!) to see all of the glittering store windows and displays (many featured trains!)

At the KLM ticket/travel agency office on 5th Avenue, they had a HUGE diorama depicting a Dutch city (MAGNIFICENT!) that featured two LARGE-SCALE (about "LGB" size) operating "Hague" PCCs, that started and stopped automatically, featuring operating doors!

These beautiful models were obviously custom built, and were VERY realistic; what a thrill to watch them running theough the miniature streets! Very Happy

About 1970 or so, KLM no longer set up this magificent display. Sad

Sure glad we saw this stunning display a number of times, back in the day! Wink

This highly unorthodox (and most interesting!) tramway operation hails from Trieste...............
