Call me crazy, but I actually liked the "aroma" of the exhaust of the old looks! BTW, did anyone noticed the tail lights on the bus at the beginning and end of the clip?

The bus in transit service is a Detroit TDH-5105. The bus with the vertical exhaust pipe appears to be a TDH- 4509.

ATHS (American Truck Historical Society) just ran an article about Detroit Diesels. One of the things that stuck out in this article was the very high oil consumption of 2-stroke Detroits.

The video associated with this post still exists. It's a good watch, especially in this day. It might be considered controversial or maybe just hilarious. Kind of reminds me of today's "science" with an agenda. Enjoy!

Speaking of bus exhaust, specifically from DD's, when I lived in LA for a year in the early 70's, I always wondered why the 6V71's in the Santa Monica Municipal Bus Lines New Looks had such a different odor from the exhaust of other 6V71's in New Looks of the SCRTD and other operators. The only thing I could think of is that they had their own "blend" of fuel. It was pretty foul-smelling in my opinion. Anyone have any ideas at this late date?
