D. J.,
I can give you a couple of tidbits on Orange and Black aside from the fact that they were or still are a suburban outfit running out of Fairview, New Jersey;
Mack records show that in 1947 Orange and Black purchased fleet # 301 which was the only Model S-45-DT (Suburban) ever built.
Additionally, they had a number of post war C-45-GT's and five C-45-SDT's.
The records of GM show the purchase of nine TDM 5108's (numbered 600 to 608) delivered in two shipments between 1956 and 1957.
There may also be a connection between Orange and Black in New York with both Royal Blue Tours and Gray Line NY Tours.
That's about all I can come up with at the moment - hope it helps you!

Orange and Black has been "dead" as a company since 1975. O&B was purchased by Transport of New Jersey that year as part of TNJ's subsidiary Maplewood Equipment Company. (MEC also acquired Inter-City Lines, Northeast Coach Lines, and Warwick Stages.) At this point, the operation was named "Maplewood Equipment Company/Fairview division". TNJ/MEC were purchased from parent PSE&G in 1980 by NJ Transit and were renamed NJ Transit Bus Operations Inc. in 1982. The Fairview garage (NJT Fairview) is still in the same location at 419 Anderson Avenue.
Manhattan Transit was located on US 46 westbound in East Paterson/Elmwood Park. MT also was the bus operator for Casser Tours, a sightseeing and tour outfit that generally ran tours originating in Manhattan. After MT went under in the mid 80s, NJT covered their services with both new and existing routes... new NJT routes 160 and 161 took care of MT 50 and 51, and expanded service on the NJT 168 addressed the MT 54. |
